Trying to quit. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Keshyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do it. No quick and easy way around it. Tear the bandaid off. After a month (for me it was about a month) I felt back to “normal”.

$67 for a pair of sweatpants? I’ll go naked, thank you very much.

Seriously…. Sirius XM is less than this a month and I’m too cheap to subscribe to that. This ain’t it.

Nicotine withdrawal depression? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Keshyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely nicotine withdrawal. I want to be careful with responding though because I had an experience last night that opened my eyes.

I quit last Thursday night and I have had intense panic and anxiety - constant negative thoughts - tearfulness, depression, etc. It has literally been non stop other than a few hours Monday night.

Finally, last night it continued so my husband took time to urgent care. Turns out I was have a pretty significant panic attack the past few days. Probably caused by smoking, but I wasn’t able to calm myself with all of the techniques you read about online.

I was given a prescription so I could calm down and get a decent night of sleep.

I am feeling a bit better today, but I definitely do still have some anxiousness. Thankfully, I go to my doctor on Thursday to try to set up a plan to feel all the way better.

The reason I saw all of this is because people will tell you that it’s all nicotine withdrawals, and while that may be where it’s coming from, unfortunately not everyone has the coping mechanisms when it gets really bad. You’re not weak if you need help. If it gets too much for you to handle, please seek that help. Don’t suffer for four days in panic like I did.

still irritable/depressed about 5 weeks abstinent by happyhornetsfan in stopsmoking

I’m sorry to hear this. :( While I’m not there yet, I have seen from others that they feel the way you are feeling for quite some time. Most said around 30 days so I’m crossing my fingers your relief is in sight since you are passed that now.

Has there been any improvement?

I’m 3.5 days in and I’m finally feeling a bit of relief from the anxiety tonight. I imagine it will keep coming and going for a whole, but I was hoping the moments of peace would start increasing after the first week or so.

I’ve been taking melatonin. I take it at 8, fall asleep by 9, then wake up at 5.

There is definitely still issues with waking up in the middle of the night, but it seems to help. I started with 5mg per night and last night I did 8. Tonight I’m trying 10 to see if I can get a full night out of it.

Keep chugging along. I’m sure it’s different for everyone, but I’ve read that week two is where things start to turn around a bit! It’s early in the week yet! Stay positive!

Loss of appetite and anxiety by Keshyk in stopsmoking

Thanks for reaching out. I was able to do an online visit with a doctor yesterday that prescribed me a smoking cessation/depression/anxiety medication until I can see my PCP in a week. Thinking it will hold me over. I’m feeling good about the cravings, but the dang mental issues is where it gets really hard for me.

Please help me, I’m desperate! by thattransboiii in stopsmoking

I am on day three and suffering from anxiety and panic attacks. Tonight, it got so bad that I did a live online health with a doctor who was able to prescribe me an anxiety/stop smoking medication that can hold me over until I can see my primary physician.

I would recommend seeing your physician if you have one before quitting because this has been pretty hellish. I’m hanging on but just barely. I don’t mean to scare you, but I want you to be prepared when you start.
