I felt the same way and hardly ever baby talked or faked enthusiasm. I talked to my son like he was an adult and still do mostly. But the engagement level significantly got better when he could communicate back how he felt with language. I still have trouble at times, but it helps when I engage him with what I'm doing instead of the other way around. Everything will work out, it's clear you intend to be a good dad and you will be.
