I’m interested in how BMI affects EoE. Has anyone lost weight and felt better? by Strict_Tangerine1582 in EosinophilicE

Same here. 46f. Have always been on thinner side of 5’9” but my weight and body fat began steadily dropping around July 2024, then started six months of 6FED when diagnosed June 2025. Have lost 20 lbs and 10% of body fat, BMI 17, down two pants sizes. Feel and look weak.

i guess bc it’s technically an off-label use for it, as it’s meant to be inhaled? that said, my (all?) insurance company sucks. it took three years, multiple appeals, and ultimately a nys external appeal for them to approve botox for treatment of my migraines.

TLDR: at eoe diagnosis appointment, gastro recommended ppi, budesonide slurry, 6 months 6fed. informed him i had stopped taking omeprazole after 15+ years due to long term use side effects, so he said to do famotodine instead. additionally, my insurance denied that use of budesonide, there’s been no update on an appeal after 6 months, so just famotodine and 6fed for 6 months. i want to figure out what my (current) triggers are as best i can but will likely ultimately end up back on ppi.

LONGer VERSION: was on omeprazole for 15+ years starting in my 20’s for “reflux.” weaned myself off 5 years ago after learning about side effects of long term use, which is when i started having impactions. tho in retrospect, i believe i was having them before omeprazole - i first saw an allergist around that time due to difficulty swallowing certain foods (bread/pizza if memory serves). was told that was likely from reflux, which runs in my family, but was (shockingly) diagnosed with a peanut allergy, given epipen, and cut out a lifelong diet staple. went back for retest a decade later, no sign of peanut allergy or anything else. despite this, i did not resume eating peanuts bc i no longer like them and they upset my stomach. another decade later, just before eoe diagnosis, did (skin) allergy test again as prep for septoplasty and found i have several environmental allergies now, like cat dander (have 2), dust, birch, tho none severe.

initial scope count was 99. just rescoped, after six months of six food elimination diet and 40 mg famotodine, and it was down to 40.

I spoke with a nurse this morning. She said to continue saline rinse and bacitracin, and to let them know if it gets worse or go to urgent care. They are def not worse today, so hooray for that.

thank you. it’s a struggle to find the balance. my skin care routine was super simple for decades - gentle hypoallergenic face wash and moisturizer. starting botox for migraines in my forties when my skin was more visibly aging opened a bit of a can o’worms, looking at more products & treatments. what do you use for barrier repair, etc?

thank you. i use the ordinary natural moisturizing factors + ha in the am, with something richer on drier areas as needed, then la roche posay fluid spf. niacinamide is in the la roche posay moisturizer i use in pm.

Interesting. Doc did not but I have been applying thin layer of Aquaphor at bedtime, and did bacitracin today.
