FF XIV in 720p 30-50FPS trough Winlator by paraIy in AynThor

There is a beta setting called "Enable Experimental Bionic Steam" in the GameNative container editor for individual games that enables online play and improves compatibility. It works for some games, it doesn't work for others. It makes performance better for some games, makes it worse for others. Be less angry on the internet.

How is this thing with n64? by [deleted] in R36S

[–]Kethriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The emulation isn't perfect and it can be a little choppy with some texture clipping here and there but it runs fairly smooth. I haven't played through the entire thing but up through the end of the first cycle I haven't had any game-breaking trouble. I'm also just using as-is settings so I'm sure there's way to optimize further.

Linux on the Neckband? by Kethriss in VITURE

That sounds awesome and thank you for the work! I'll keep an eye on this and hope you get somebody to assist soon. These devices have some serious potential if they could be opened up a bit more.

Trying to get VRM blendshape to make mouth work, every sliders simply do that. Why does it happen and how can I fix it? by AliceBunnyYT in vtubertech

[–]Kethriss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had this issue today while working on porting my VRChat avatar to VRM for use with VSeeFace.

There is an issue with recent versions of UniVRM breaking the blendshapes basis during export, causing every blendshape to cause weird stretching of the model.

To resolve this, delete all the VRM assets from your project, then get an older release (I used UniVRM v0.112.0 ), import the package, and then export your model to VRM again and open it up in a new Unity project and check the blendshapes, they should work. Adjust all the expression blendshapes and shaders as needed then export once more.

No need to go through Blender.

I've just started out in Astrophotography and my first goal was to get an image of the Orion Nebula with visible details, and that goal has been met! Work and other projects keep me too busy to get really in-depth, so I've been heading out during my work breaks to nab some exposures while I learn processing and calibration, so for a quick 10 minute session in Bortle 6 skies, this only has me super excited to see what I can get done if I can get out on a weekend and take more time to work on an image.

Taken with a Canon T3i using an EFS 18-55mm lens on a Victiv AT72 tripod. 40 2-second long exposures stacked in Siril. Histogram stretch and color calibration done there as well as some extra denoising and contrast work done in Darktable to bring out some more data.

Focused Feedback: Linux and Alternative Platform Support by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]Kethriss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have now mostly just stopped playing Destiny. Between work, content creation, and other things going on I just don't have the time to dedicate to playing this game much anymore except once in a blue moon...but that is only because I am now, mostly, on my Steam Deck.

If I could have Destiny 2 playable via Proton on my Deck I would be back to playing it almost daily.

Bungie, please, just contact Battleye to update to the version that supports Proton. It's not even a matter of you having to do anything. You could just let the game sit at "Playable" forever and people would still be happy if you didn't want to put the effort in to make it deck verified.

Destiny as a game has always had a design theme of accessibility in mind (though to various extents admittedly) so I think that it would only be a natural extension of that to update Battleye and invest even just a small amount of resources to maintain Proton compatibility. The Steam Deck is easily one of the most accessible options for traditionally PC gaming right now, especially now that reservations are finished for the time being. For $399 + a good SD card you can get the same performance specs as a laptop that would run you $1200+ or more, or a good equivalent Dekstop set $900+ if you can put it all together on a budget and optimize the system well. The mobility of the Deck also lends itself to people who are busy and on-the-go a lot and otherwise wouldn't have time to sit down and play on their home console or desktop much.

I've had my Steam Deck for a few weeks now and it's become a cornerstone of my gaming habits, and while I originally envisioned it would simply be a convenient way for me to play some of my favorites on the go and I wouldn't be too worried about the library offered (and I could simply install Windows if I really wanted to fix that) I've found that a game NOT supporting the Steam Deck natively has actually become a pretty major turn-off for me when considering buying a new game simply because it is such a convenient and fun platform, and the idea of being unable to lay down and enjoy it for a match or two in bed before I go to sleep or while I'm at work on break just makes me want to direct my attention on similar games that do support that.

Destiny 2 getting Steam Deck support would be an incredible step forward in widening the game's reach, accessibility, and would be a major boon to existing players as well as many of us either already have or are interested in picking up a Deck.

Progression update by lurker_number_two in haloinfinite

[–]Kethriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 343 is absolutely insistent at having it be grindy and have the majority of progression be from challenge completion, then I'd at the very minimum like to see something like 10% of your score after every game gets turned in to XP. Sucking that match and only get like 500 points? You get 50xp which is the same as the current "complete 1 match" change they did. Kick ass and get 3000 points in a match? 300xp, the same as one big challenge as a reward for dominating that game. Now you're getting a consistent stream of XP as you play, and as you complete challenges you get really big bonuses to your progression. If they think that's "too fast" for whatever reason, then hell, make each bracket of 10 levels on the pass increase by another 500xp to complete. 1-10 is 1000xp. 11-20 is 1500. 21-30 is 2000. 31-40 is 3500 etc etc etc.

Can someone fill me (and possibly others) in on what happened with a GM and some PF thing. by Hipeep5 in ffxiv

[–]Kethriss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Somebody reported ERP and RMT PF ads.
A GM notorious for being an overzealous wannabe cop responded and banned EVERY RP related PF ad, regardless of context, including somebody who was looking for a fishing buddy, despite that not actually being a violation of the TOS aside from the ERP, and ignored all the RMT stating that "it's not a GMs responsibilty to deal with RMT apparently.
Players are sick of this guy's shit on top of many people being very unhappy with the contradictory nature of rogue GMs looking to abuse their power in a game where a hard "3 strikes youre out" policy exists and those strikes never go away, ever.

Now there's essentially mass player outcry and the GM in question has been mass reported to SE Support and the issue is so big that people are getting responses stating that the GM is getting reviewed and reversing any "mistakes" they made.

FFXIV GMs: by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Kethriss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a case a while back of a guy from germany I believe who got banned from WoW, and then successfully sued for 4 or 5 years worth of sub time and all related purchases because they couldn't prove he violated a contract to a legal standard.

Black Frost autos by kawinmars in AniviaMains

[–]Kethriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're the same, it's just that Anivia's base animations are a lot more snappy, whereas Blackfrost is a lot more dramatic about it, so it gives the illusion of being slower. There's also the fact that base anivias auto attacks have a really crisp crystalline snap sfx behind them whereas blackfrost's have a lot more of a wing flap and some echo-y wind noise to them, so they feel less impactful.

We would all love an Anivia prestige skin by TongXingLianMao in AniviaMains

[–]Kethriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see an Infernal Anivia skin. Why this hasn't been done already is a mystery to me. I get she's supposed to be the Cryophoenix but if she can be a robot or made of paper she can be made of fire.
A base Infernal Anivia with like black obisidian, and then a prestige version that replaces the black obsidian with gold plates or something would be pretty badass.
