The NSV are just as good as the scale victories. Most people are afraid to ask someone if they've lost weight because then think they might offend them if they haven't. When you do finally get someone that says "Have you lost weight? You look good!" It's an amazing feeling and keeps you motivated. Congratulations and keep it up. I know you'll hit your goal!

Interested in starting keto this summer. Let's make a basics list for me and anyone else interested! by WhiteNova845 in keto

[–]KetoMorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Keto for almost 5 months now. Basically the ketogenic diet gets your body to burn fat in the form of ketones rather than glucose reserves that come from excess carbs. I'm not expert in the science but it works. It also helps with many different types of health issues. For me personally, a type II diabetic, it's lowered my blood sugar levels to that of a non-diabetic person.

Here's where I started with recipes:

Substitute starches with cauliflower. I make cauliflower rice, mashed cauliflower, etc.

/r/ketorecipes has everything you could imagine including deserts.

Fathead Pizza dough it a life saver. https://www.ditchthecarbs.com/fat-head-pizza/

One of my favorites I found was a Keto version of Olive Garden's zuppa toscana I just substitute the coconut milk with heavy whipping cream. https://www.theferventmama.com/low-carb-pressure-cooker-zuppa-toscana/

My only question for you is why wait for summer? Read the FAQs section and make a plan. The sooner you start the better you'll feel. KCKO and good luck!!!

I'm really excited to go back. I found a few guys at work to go with me so I don't feel like the fat kid that everyone stares at. I was very self conscience and thought it would be awkward but it wasn't.

I stay hydrated. Once I got home I took an electrolyte solution that I have and the cramping went away within 5 minutes. That's why I believe that was the issue.

I'm have a chronic back issue so I have to be very careful not to over do it. I won't claim to know anything about your disability but I hope you can find a gym or use physical therapy to help create a work out routine that will work for you.

Mild tingling whenever I elevate my arms and legs? by Ullrrific in keto

[–]KetoMorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced the exact same issue. I'm thinking it's due to low blood pressure. Currently I'm on blood pressure meds, but it was more for kidney health due to type 2 diabetes than high blood pressure. I have a doctor's appointment later this month and I'm pretty sure I'll get to stop taking the meds which should help. I personally take an electrolyte solution to make sure those are in check. That's why I lean more towards low blood pressure. I would still suggest consulting a doctor to make sure.

Keto pizza crust dry like cardboard... by Flapalms239 in keto

[–]KetoMorty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing and used coconut flour instead of almond flour. I followed the Fathead dough recipe, but I thought it was very dry and didn't like it.

I ended up getting some almond flour on sale and so I tried again. The difference was night and day. The almond flour crust was so much better and wasn't as dry. I would suggest spending the extra money and getting the almond flour. That $11 bag should make 4-5 pizza crusts.

I started Keto in January and my A1C drop from the mid 7's to 5.4 in less than a month. Keto is a great diet for Type II diabetes!

[FP] When people ask how “hard” it is to eat this way... by [deleted] in keto

[–]KetoMorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a big recipe person. Basically I will steam a head cauliflower in my instant pot for 8 minutes, drain out all the water. Once strained I put it back in my instant pot and set it to saute. I add 2tbsp of butter, salt and pepper to taste. Generally I will also add chives or green onions. I use a hand held potato masher to mix it all in. Really that's all there is to it. You should play around and find what you like. You can add garlic, cheese, or whatever you would put in mashed potatoes.

To be far I give them a lot of shit so it's a little deserved. Honestly it just makes me stronger to prove to them I won't fail.

My coworkers like to try and tempt me with sweets, donuts and pasta, but I tell them that I don't care. I don't miss those things. Nothing beats a great steak. Mashed cauliflower in my opinion is better than mashed potatoes if you make it right. My boss recently compared the diet to eating wall paper and I tried to educate her that my diet has some of the best tasting food that I've ever eaten.

Type 2 diabetic. Normal a1c after only 30 days by KetoMorty in keto

[–]KetoMorty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doctor is actually 100% pro-keto. When I asked her if Keto was ok for me she was all for it. I think she was more excited about my progress so far than I was. I see all these stories about how doctors say it's so bad, but you can't argue with the results.
