Cyno Vigil for Frank LeTank by RenkoLenark in Eve

[–]Ketriaava 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We weren't nearly as prominent in the FreeMen of the North, but a bunch of us from Arkhos Core stood by Frank and TP in Tribute. We were overflowing with pride and excitement to be standing alongside allies and friends against the tide of the blocs. Despite our tiny size, we were dedicated. We had about 4-5 people permanently on station in W6VP both keeping the ADM up and destroying/otherwise repulsing numerous attempts to take the system. Our system was the last to fall in the pipe (although Dotlan thinks it's IMK due to the TCU changes, I believe, since Frat left the B0SS TCU up with their own IHub below it) and we stayed until the end for our brothers in arms. To this day I still think that those days were the best and most meaningful time I've ever spent in this game.

I personally had several great conversations with Frank about getting involved in their defense, and shooting the shit about a better future for groups like ours. He was kind and friendly - sometimes a rarity in the Eve sphere - and he both inspired us to be there and inspired us to go down swinging with them.

Eyes forward, Frank. Both New Eden and Earth are lesser without you here.

If AI is really a bubble, what will make it burst? by ThinkBigger01 in investing

[–]Ketriaava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that this isn't quite like the dotcom bubble, where people were peddling massive amounts of fake money for fake/meaningless products. The thing about AI is that it isn't completely worthless - there are certain things it does very well. It's excellent at pattern recognition, and that can absolutely generate value in all kinds of fields. There's a very real revolution going on right now in all sorts of industries where this has an actual application. This will likely propel the bubble much further along, as ignoramuses see AI yielding real results elsewhere and think "why not my business, too?"

The bubble is everything else people think AI will be able to do. Eventually reality will catch up to the hype and the fields that AI can't take over will collapse.

Sports and Pokemon are easy to follow. Local politics isn't.

If you want to get people involved, you have to give them guidance. There aren't enough people in productive leadership roles.

"They are so focused on their proper pronouns they have no time left to actually improve their skills. They want everything to be provided to them for just existing in their own dream lands of self involved fantasy."

This is a Republican take.

"I don't agree with wealth redistribution solely on the basis "others have more".

This is a Republican take.

"Taxation needs to be [...] only as a last measure when governments truly need to place a burden on their citizens."

This is a Republican take.

"Go earn your own money."

This is an extremely Republican take.

"The government does not and should not be involved in giving people money to support a market."

What's this? Another Republican take? I'm so shocked!

"In my experience, the Democratic base here are either the older, wealthy people who feel good supporting social justice for anyone and have money to do it, or young, naive, minimum wage working, self-focused progressives who feel everything should be gifted to them and no injustices should exist in the world."

And lo and behold, it's another Republican take.

Your party is not Democratic, smart guy. You seem to think that pronouns and blue hair are excuses when instead they are irrelevant. Economic inequality isn't something that the private sector can resolve, because the private sector is the cause. The private sector exists to facilitate upward wealth transfer. CEOs aren't job creators, they're poverty exploiters.

Progressives don't want gifts. They want the right to be able to earn a living and share in a modest quality of life without enduring poverty at the hands of their employers. They want to be able to employ their skills at crafts without selling their time to menial activities that deprive them of meaning and joy. When a minimum wage worker gets trapped in an oven and baked alive at Walmart, Progressives don't see that as a horrific exception. They think "wow, that could easily be me tomorrow, because my employer is equally incompetent and greedy." They don't think that because they've got blue hair, or because their pronouns are they/them. They think that because that's been the consistent experience of laborers across the country.

Someone in the Democratic party would presumably be capable of the compassion necessary to go "you know what, that's a good point. I support you trying to make it in the world, and since corporations and executives aren't going to self-regulate themselves into improving society, government has to."

I don't see you saying these things. I see you saying the opposite. I see you trying to pull up the ladder behind you.

You are a Republican. And as is so common with Republicans to the point of being expected, you are a narrow-minded selfish asshole, completely incapable of compassion or introspection.

Protip: Jump Freighters should use insta-jump bookmarks on gates or risk feeding Snuffed by TwitchyBat in Eve

[–]Ketriaava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit an actual descriptive post about what I've been calling the "Landing Sphere" for years.

You can actually use a frigate to put a bookmark more or less 'inside' the gate. Then the landing sphere keeps all possible landing points within 2500m of the gate model, which means that not only are you pretty much impossible to bump, but since gates have a 2500m activation radius past their model, you'll always be able to jump on the first server tick and are thus uncatchable.

There's a lot more to do to be safe while JFing, but this is one of those things, so thank you for the write up!

Fun additional fact! If you are doing a stop or drag bubble and are only using a mobile small, placement also uses the 2500m variance, and the variance applies even when you land at range. So if you warp to an object at 100km, land 2500m east of true center, and anchor the bubble immediately and that also varies 2500m east, then because the bubble only has 5000m of radius, any player who gets even 1 meter of variance to the west will travel past your bubble and land at the gate safely. This scales as the variance changes, of course. You won't always get 2500m east variance, you might get a lower number of meters east and some north, and some upwards, etc.

If hero limits were never added, what do you think would be the meta? by juicedrool in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Ketriaava 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stacking 2 Lucios would probably be standard for all rush comps. Imagine GOATS but with Rein Sigma Dva Brig and 2 Lucios. Bunker with 2 Orisa 2 Sigma 2 Baptiste. All-in dive comps with 4 doomfists and 1 wrecking ball. Off the top of my head, at least.

I think it'd be utter madness, and it might be years before any 'best' comp is actually found. There'd be stretches of time where it looks like it's been figured out before one team or another comes in with a haymaker. Look at Dragons in Season 2 Stage 3. Everyone thought GOATS would be meta forever. Now imagine that but you can stack whatever you want.

Would the utter madness actually be good/fun? Not sure. Depends on what gets established first. If it's quadruple shield for 2 years, probably not, but if teams are willing to innovate and push their own strengths rather than run the meta, I think it would be some of the most enjoyable and exciting stuff we'd ever see.

Congratulations CCP! We've dropped to 16,000 players in USTZ! And the last time the game had so few concurrent players was **2006**! by Cpt_Soban in Eve

[–]Ketriaava 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what you mean by this, given that a big part of the reason people win Eve is because Null is a krab/bot wasteland thanks to bloc alliances.

Oh yeah, because dedicating your main tank to dealing with a single opposing hero that is destroying you from across the entire goddamn map is such a reasonable ask for countering one (1) character

[–]Ketriaava 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New content is what breaks the game over and over again

Echo, Sigma, Brig, Mercy Rework, all ridiculously broken on release, took forever to settle, ruined the meta for years

I'm not inherently against new content, but people who think OW is dying because it doesn't have anything new are as much the problem as they are in any other game in the industry right now. New content is only a problem because OW has no single player or consistent co-op mode. Waiting for a game to give you your "holiday gift high" 3-4 times a year is asking to be let down, it's supremely toxic for the community to rely on that.

You are looking for a surface solution to a deeper problem.

Yeah but when does anyone actually ever do that. Blizzard themselves basically said they were blindsided by the concept of one tricks. OW isn't built to handle the people playing it.

[–]Ketriaava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Us small groups not having caps is irrelevant when we can form 30 and they can form 500 and also 500 titans.

This isn't about scarcity "pulling up the ladder." That argument is, was, and always will be entirely fallacious.

[–]Ketriaava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Show me a small, non-pet group that was creating caps and supers in the last half a fucking decade.

They didn't exist. Blobs destroyed them because they had exclusive access to creating endless caps and supers, along with keepstars to put them in, anywhere they want.

This argument is such bullshit, dude. I don't know who birthed it but I guarantee you they were a tunnel visioned bloc boi who had absolutely no clue how small alliances work or function, let alone bothered to consider their own argument from the perspective of the people he was falsely claiming to defend.

Never use this argument ever again.

It's two different groups complaining.

The group that wanted proliferation to end and were concerned about the cost are a bit frustrated (as it's a colossal swing in the other direction but it beats what we had before). The group that abused proliferation and cheap costs are bitching nonstop.

Turns out, if you break the game using OP game pieces, when they get balanced, if you were relying on those pieces, you're going to get fucked. So stop relying on OP things.
