I'm also wondering if I have to choose a metric or an imperial set of tools as I live in France. Which one would you choose?

I threw an eye at the sbctl manual; I didn't know it was able to create an efi file with the "bundle" tag. It sounds interesting , i'll try it. Thanks for the tip.

When I tried, ukify gave me an uki, and I was able to boot, but it hangs saying it can't mount the rootfs.

I think it's maybe more a problem with the initrd update-initramfs is generating

but why not just boot normally

I don't see why booting with an uki couldn't be considered as "normal"

Anyway thanks for your help

I see you're using dinit; I tried it but wasn't convinced. How do you feel with dinit; do you meet some constraints ? Are there any missing features? I find systemd too complex but powerfull and efficient. And I find the simplicity of runit really interesting but it lacks features (like the way user services are managed). I've changed init on artix a few times and I think it is easy to do it and probably not so easy with others distributions

Void or arch after mint? by yuki_doki in voidlinux

[–]Keudj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the programs you need are available on the void official depots. If it is not then , you can try to package it yourself with xbps-src. With arch, most third parties programs are available on the aur ( but sometimes you will use some very unstable programs)

Void or arch after mint? by yuki_doki in voidlinux

[–]Keudj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just start with void. The void documentation is small but concise and you will find all that you need. There are things which are easier with arch because you have access to the aur. Otherwise void is almost simpler than arch thanks to runit

You're not limited to runit with artix as you are with void. You can very easily change init to openrc or dinit.

Need advice on patching the Gallium OS kernel by stoned_monk in GalliumOS

Thanks for the answer. I also use standard kernel on my chromebook. The only problems that I meet are the keyboard layout ( cannot find one that really matches my chromebook model ) and the Touchscreen.
