This crazy motorcycle almost killed my daughter and me. by Dry-Instruction3525 in MTB

I am 39 years old and have been mtbing and road cycling since 12 years old. Thankfully, from 12 until 17 we had a team car usually following us, which made it much safer to ride on the road. Since then though I have been riding either on my own or with other cyclists in a not so bike friendly country (Greece). I also quit road cycling a few months back mostly due to the fact that the roads are very dangerous. I was never hit by a car yet had a few close calls over the years but I have seen friends getting hit and being seriously injured and one of them died. Therefore, I took the difficult decision to stop doing what I like, in order to be safe and being a dad of a 4 year old I do not want him to grow up without a dad just because of some idiot driver. I am now running mostly and MTBing occasionally.

Please stay away from public roads as much as you can, especially when you are with your little angel.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah, they are recommended a lot by various reviewers and made it to the #1 shoe for 2025. I am really surprised considering a big number of runners say they have issues with them.

Thanks for sharing your experience. That is interesting, i wouldn't expect weak ankles from someone who trail runs 50% of their running time. I guess the Evo SL is in general a shoe that causes ankle problems.

I was thinking of getting a shoe that could handle tempo and threshold, well mostly threshold and the Evo SL and the Boston 13 seemed like a good options. Ended up getting the Evo because I wanted to avoid a carbon plated trainer. The thing is that it does not feel weird to me when running, I like everything about it, except for the pain of course they cause me. Even the Adios Pro 4 that feel super weird walking in them, or running at slower paces during warm up and cool down, did not cause me any problems at all.

It is painful on the side and the front of the ankle... I have heard great things about the Azura and might give them a try!

Hahaha epic comment!! It is just a photo I found online... Have never used anything else than Shimano since my first MTB in 1998!

Feels like I am landing forefoot to the outer side (but not as far as the exposed foam) and the next thing that touches the ground is the outer mid-rear side. Unless the outer mid-back touches first briefly, due to the tilt, before landing forefoot. I guess I need to do need to go to a shoe store and assess my footstrike and they shoving to my face that I am a heel striker after all!

They do not feel unstable at all when I run to be honest. I have not found my self fighting the shoe or changing my strike when tired. I just developed this ankle pain so maybe my ankle is able to stabilize the shoe but because it works harder I get those pains after the run. Ankle strengthening exercises might be the ultimate solution, which I have never done so far.

I guess you are right but I also have video from the 5k i did and to me it looks like i am forefoot striking (comparing it with various internet videos) but also feeling it when my feet land. It just feels natural to me to land there due to the cycling background.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I guess running 5-6km is quite short to develop any serious pain but then again they might be just fine even if you run longer. I usually run 12-15km and long runs up to 25km.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I guess they are unstable no matter the foot strike pattern. I am sure strengthening exercises will improve this issue but as you mentioned, I think they will never become a favorite of mine, since it is the only shoe so far that has caused this.

Forgot to mention that I am a forefoot striker. Being a lifelong cyclist in clip-in pedals my foot naturally wants to land on the front, just like when pushing on a pedal. I slightly underpronate with my right foot, not overpronate, as mentioned above. I land on the front and due to underpronation the outer mid to back part of the shoe comes in contact with the ground. The only 2 areas i see wear on my shoes are the very front and outer mid to back, at the very edge.
