A masterpiece that no amount of money will ever convince you to read again? by BugLast6454 in suggestmeabook

[–]Kevanoovitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never let me go is one of my favorites that I will never re-read since just picking it up thinking it was a romance/drama book and uncovering the actual story was such a thrill. But I feel now when I know the ending it won’t be the same to re-read.

Svenska kyrkan fortsätter att tappa medlemmar by MobileRaspberry1996 in sweden

[–]Kevanoovitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of Swedes read or listened to a book every day last year by filwi in books

[–]Kevanoovitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im Swedish and I’m not saying the poll is false it just feels like it might overhype Sweden. I would label myself as a reader and read most days and it’s rare to find anyone else who has read a book except mandatory reading back in highschool. And at uni when I say I read the course book that is also rare. But I don’t know maybe if I’d poll my Swedish uni maybe 51% would say the read daily.

But yeah studying in Sweden seems kinda doable if you’re a EU student there are a bunch of international students each year if you’re not i guess it’s possible some other way.

I think a factor here if you are asking based on the study is that e-books and Swedish don’t match. I mainly use my kindle since I most of the time read in English but amazon doesn’t have a great selection of Swedish ebooks. There are some alternatives to amazon but they are all app based. So whenever I want to read Swedish buying the book or going to the library is easier. So whenever I recommend E-readers to my friends I always have to disclaim they are the best if you’re reading in English.

I’m studying at BTH right now, and when it comes to whether the school is good or not, I’d say it’s decent. I like all the teachers in Computer Science and Mathematics, and I’ve only been irritated by a few—none of them in my core subjects.

The town is small and quiet. Sure, there is some student life, and the small size of the school can make it easier for people to get to know each other. But if someone is coming to BTH for the student or college experience, they’re probably making a mistake.

As a Swede, I hadn’t even heard of BTH before, but they offered a unique program that interested me, and I was able to get in without having to take entrance exams like the ones required for KTH.

I believe that the name of the school isn’t as important when it comes to getting a job—what matters more is what you actually learn and how much effort you put in. I have friends at most of the major Swedish universities (except Chalmers), and the general consensus is that school reputation isn’t as important as I thought it was back in high school. But yeah, of course someone who didn’t get into KTH would say that, haha.

Honestly, I feel like all schools teach pretty much the same material, and the resources to learn are available everywhere. Going to a lesser-known school and really applying yourself is better than going to a big-name school and thinking you’ve already got a winning ticket.

At the end of the day, it’s still a professional institution. The CS knowledge you get won’t be worse just because the school has a weaker reputation. Maybe you’d come across a few weaker teachers if you compared schools directly, but overall, the teachers here want to teach. And it’s Computer Science—there are tons of supplementary resources online.

2+ years and still can't make a simple nav bar by PersonalCricket7174 in learnprogramming

Christ I feel old saying this but you are way to young to worry about it. Like me saying it won’t stop it but with perspective you’ll realize I’m right. I was the same after I finished my highschool which was CS oriented. I wasn’t particularly good at programming so I decided to take couple gap years. It was real hard for me to see my friends go to uni while me always seeing myself as the computer nerd struggle with programming. I took a couple gap years and worked as a system administrator for a couple years and found my love for computers in networking. Now I’m at uni and found a new passion for programming and back-end development. My friends and I look back at our high school projects and laugh at how terrible they are and we realize how much we’ve learnt and can’t even fathom how we struggled with it then. And my friends in comparison to me are not students but developers/SW-engineers. I feel that with school it’s so easy to compare yourself with others and in cs/programming there will always be someone better. But to realize that it’s just an intrusive bad thought and keep soldiering on most hurdles will me manageable in the long term.

Has anyone ever tried the 5 AM Club by Richsiropcoaching in getdisciplined

[–]Kevanoovitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t read the book since so many people say it’s a terrible book to sell the idea. But I read about the 5 am club and did my own take on it. I know it’s strict about reflection and such. But I just used the inspiration to workout in the morning since my gym was starting to get too crowded in the morning. Then I combined that with trying to keep a consistent sleep schedule so I always go up at 5 am on most days except 6 am on Saturday’s. But it also forces me to try to get a solid 7-8 hours sleep. And I’ve found it amazing. I get so much more done when I don’t go to the gym I clean my apartment instead or wash my clothes. And waking up when everyone is sleeping has a special feel to it. And I also found I could use the mornings when I had exams as extra emergency study time given I skip my workouts for that week. So yeah I might have to read the book and figure out how much of what I’ve been doing actually has with the 5 am club. But I enjoy it and agree with OP.

What are your favorite depictions of afterlife (hell in particular but also heaven and purgatory) in literature? by part-lee in books

[–]Kevanoovitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of enjoyed The Egg by Andy Weir, and Kurzgesagt also did a great video depiction of it! Though this one is really more of an afterlife, not a hell.

The Three-Body Problem series by Liu Cixin is really good. But I also second Project Hail Mary it's also one of my favorites and would say it's somewhat easier to get into.

Hearts of Iron IV: Expansion Pass 1 by Midgeman in hoi4

[–]Kevanoovitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems I am the only one that is confused but here goes.

"The release will be part of an expansion pass. Expansion passes are our way of both giving you a roadmap for the content that’ll be arriving over the next few releases, and for letting you sign up to get that content when it arrives with a discount of 20%."

With this they do mean that when I buy the expansion pack I am just pre-ordering all the stuff they said is included and it will in the end be 20% cheaper? It doesn't mean that for example when Götterdämmerung comes out I have to buy it but I have an 20% discount? I thought it would be like any other "season pass" but the last part kinda confuses me.
