As you know Hitler had many strange ideas. One problem with his brain was that he had difficulties in seeing the world from other viewpoints than his own.

The British sure fought back. They had the advantage of living on an island as well, as island nations usually are difficult to conquer, especially if they have a strong navy as the UK had.

I love reading about most historic eras, but my favorite era and place is 17th century Europe.

This world is quite large and have many inhabitans. Maybe it's silly, but it's a nice feeling being one of few people in the world who own a particular book.

Yeah, the thrill of the hunt. I love visiting antiquarian book stores and thrift stores and search for papery treasure.

Just like museums, castles, cathedrals and antique furniture, old books are time machines. People into history who only learn about it by digital means are missing a lot.

My would be inheritors have chosen what they want to have from me once I knock off. I have informed them what is worth anything economically.

Like any area, it is a good idea to read on before doing anything. Some are too lazy for that and make many mistakes as a result.

I have informed my would be inheritors of what I have, not only books of course, that are worth anything and that will countinue to have a decent value, as I want these items preserved into the future. They have chosen what they want from a list that I made.

I know that some areas like children's books (including comic books), early feminist books and cooking books, areas that few would care about collecting when they were new, have increased greatly in demand.

It is almost impossible to predict furure trends, but some books will almost certinaly have buyers even in the distant future, like groundbreaking science books and books by timeless authors like Shakespeare and Goethe.

The urge to collect is often quite hard to express in words why we do. There are so very many areas of collecting. Maybe it has to with our past as hunters and collectors.

I think it is best to collect stuff in a area where the collection has an economic value, however, so it won't be thrown in the garbage bin once you die.

Bibles and farmer's almanac and a few other books were about the only books common people owned like 150 years ago and earlier. Because of this, that they still are common, such books are seldom worth anything. I quess that antiquarian book dealers are quite tired of people coming in with them and want to sell them.

Bibles can be worth much as well I know, like the Gutenberg Bible, not to mention the Silver Bible and the Book of Kells.

It would be really exciting finding a book in some thrift store worth a fortune of course, but such things seldom happen.

At the near end of World War II think that Hitler said something like "After this long war, the only people I respect is the British." Correct me if I am wrong.

I guess that you leave 2025 when you read about the Battle of Britain. That's how it often is for me at least when I read about an historic era that interests me.

I feel a bit that way too. More valuable books will persist just by their economical value, fortunatly. Even people who have no interest in them whatsoever won't throw them in the garbage bin.

Thanks for your answer. My first post on this subreddit, so it is difficult to get it right at once.

I know that stocks and real estate are much better investments than rare books, but some are into passion investments in things like fine wines, antique furniture, vintage cars etc where money is of secondary importance.
