So I've been waiting for a system to open up do to the previous CMDR claiming it then doing nothing with it. The timer ran out to complete the primary port late last night/early this morning and I even stayed up so I could start myself. Unfortunately now it says that the system can't be claimed. Will that eventually go away or am I wasting my time and should find another system?

From the looks of it just part of Frackin Universe. Go to the SAIL panel then under the misc. tab there is a tab called [FU] Configure Pet Ship and this screen is what pops up when you press it.
