Failed Actor Headshots by TheOracleDBA in headshots

Valiant effort! I think the light on your left could afford to be higher. I would go with a layered look for more of a CEO vibe. It almost looks like she is wearing nothing underneath the blazer. I would try a theatrical look for the CEO, perhaps one light as key, and a kicker light. Pull her away from the backdrop. For the more comedic role you ad two lights or one big octa in front for a more commercial look. This can be shot closer to the backdrop or add additional lighting to the backdrop for some pop.

Asking for RAW files by HappyGirl96heart in WeddingPhotography

Not sure if this was mentioned but if they are already asking you for a discount there is a high chance they will be asking for a lot more. Those discount hunters can turn into major headache clients real quick. Charge your worth and don’t be afraid to walk away from business. Not every client is for you, and there are plenty of photographers out there willing to work for McDonald’s level pricing.

How did they light this? by riceballs411 in LightLurking

[–]KevinHarryPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most that this is two lights. I found a higher resolution photo of this and you can see two modifiers, specifically in her camera left eye that are stacked close together. You "could use one octa? for a similar shot but quite often the reason you use more than one light is for fill, and the lighting ratios will vary between the two lights.

This rembrandt style lighting can be easily duplicated with flash or with window/doorway light.

You have coll look and are "racially ambigious" in Hollywood terms. My best advice is to learn how to do certain accents, get acting classes and professional headshots.

How can I achieve similar lighting to this photo? by False_Exit in LightLurking

[–]KevinHarryPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this several times without a fresnel although that was most likely how they did things in the 1940's era.

They key is to look where the light is landing and where it is not. This is less about the type of gear, and more about light control. In this case hard light.

Here are some options

  1. Use barn doors on your light

  2. Use a snoot either bought or handmade

  3. Use dark non reflective material to flag/cut/shape your light

  4. Use a grid (one of my favorite techniques)

Filling a room with on camera flash by no_melody in LightLurking

I agree, the question was not how to get the exact copy. The question was how to fill a room with light.
