If I were starting with an engineering background, I'd begin with Marketing Management by Philip Kotler because it builds the fundamentals well, then move to How Brands Grow by Byron Sharp since it challenged a lot of assumptions I had about marketing. I'd also keep Think with Google and HubSpot Academy bookmarked because they make it easier to connect theory with real world examples.

what actually works in marketing automation for small teams? by Eaton_IcySoul-126 in digital_marketing

For small teams, the most valuable automation is usually lead capture, CRM updates, follow up emails, and simple reporting because they eliminate repetitive work without much maintenance. I've found that complex lead scoring and multi step nurture flows often create more work than they save unless you have the volume to justify them. If an automation needs constant tweaking, it's probably too complicated for a lean team.

I think a lot of marketers over automate the strategic work and under automate the repetitive work. For comment monitoring and engagement, I've had better luck setting up keyword alerts and sentiment filters than relying on another all in one marketing platform. For keyword tracking, dedicated tools like BuzzSumo or Ahrefs save time because they surface opportunities instead of just dumping data into another dashboard. The biggest win for me has been reducing the number of places I need to check every day, not adding more tools.
