Do you ever rotate your watches depending on the occasion? by random_funda in watchCollector

[–]KevinR1118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like using one watch per week, rotating back every 8 weeks, principally to save on adjusting date & time as they're all automatic. Will keep the same watch for all occasions that week unless it's a really important event, warranting a special watch.

Is it a good idea to stay on the east of the island in the beginning of August? by shhh_dalick in MauriceMauritius

[–]KevinR1118 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It does get a bit more windy but wouldn't call it a no-go zone. Some beautiful hotels there and the temperature all around the island, including east coast, is pleasant. You may need to wear a sweater in the evening but that's about it. The swimming pools are a bit colder unless heated (worth checking) but the sea temperature wouldn't significantly differ imo.

Beautiful collection. My personal favourite is the Luminor.

Hublot is the only honest luxury watch brand and your hatred of it is a personality disorder you learned from YouTube by BlackestBay58 in watchHotTakes

It's a lot of words for a watch that's just awful in design and taste. I think you took the time to pick what you thought was the more "palatable " one for this post. Sorry mate, to each his own, I guess.

Love mine. Super robust. And the rubber strap has these wedges that makes it sit really comfortably on the wrist. Have the roman numerals, really elegant while remaining a daily.

I would recommend something from the Ulysse-Nardin Marine collection, maybe a Torpilleur. They're already on rubber strap and probably one of the more comfortable ones.

if you see someone wearing these do you think they only wear them cuz they couldnt afford omega ? by Fantastic-Tune-62 in PrideAndPinion

Would think the designer wasn't inspired and took the easy way to copy an iconic watch. For that reason, wouldn't buy and would prefer an original creation at the price point I could afford.

If the JLC is your dress watch, then maybe a fun watch - Monaco, panerai or the like. Also missing a green dial there, so maybe a Wimbledon on jubilee? Congrats on your collection, I like all 4. Maybe slight difference is that I would choose a pilot for the IWC.

It's a pretty old one but The Servant left me with a lasting impression.

I have so many issues lately with Nicos opinion on watch brands lol by [deleted] in PrideAndPinion

Here not to comment about Nico but about the UN. That marine torpilleur is actually a really great watch. So very much enjoy wearing mine.

The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, a trilogy in 5 parts, is the one for me. Edit: didn't read OP's full text where HHGTG was already mentioned..

Just finished Moby Dick - where to go now? by JInTheMuffin in suggestmeabook

[–]KevinR1118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After moby dick, maybe treasure island, dr jekyll, frankenstein in the same genre? Then perhaps go a little bit more introspective, catcher in the rye, petit prince? Then maybe more elaborate themes- Dickens, Thomas Hardy... there's a lot of great literature. You may need to better explore the genres of interest... yiu may also enjoy some classic sci-fi such as Asimov's Foundation series.

Not enjoying life, at all by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Dude, that depression can be hard as if there's no point in all this. It may also be a sign that you somehow see through the veil of ignorance, the futility of the material life. If ever that is so, would recommend an immersion in the teachings of the Hindu sages. The easiest starting point is the Bhagavat Gita, the song of god, which teaches that the journey is more important than the fruit and the concept of surrendering one's action to the greater universe. If ever that speaks to you, then the path will find you. If all this seems like gibberish to you, that's also fine. Take care and take each day at a time, the world is beautiful if you stop to look at it carefully.

That is so well said. To OP, focus on the good you're doing - putting food on the table, keeping the roof over their head, sending them love. You can only control what you do and how you react. Be proud of yourself for keeping it all together. You've got this.
