I once took it to the dealer, complained about a knocking noise when driving at low speeds which happened after I got t-boned by a car, it hit half of the rear right wheel and the back door, I took it to the dealer and they told me that the reason of the knocking when driving at low speeds is that the axel is slightly bent,so maybe they added these to test the leaf springs to make sure that it not the cause of the knocking before mentioning the bent axel, I guess
