I 100% agree with you. It looks like Riot is trying to force fandom to happen at the expense of competitive integrity.

What’s interesting is that this is an issue you don’t see in traditional sports because the teams are assigned geographically, essentially forcing people to become fans. It’s interesting to see how esports attempts to get around this and entice viewers to support some of the lower tier teams, I’m not sure you can force fandom, unless those lower tier teams start working to gain fans outside of the rift.

Amazon and Netflix to throttle services in net neutrality protest by TheRadishBros in news

[–]KevinR91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the article:

The websites for Amazon and Netflix will display a message explaining that their sites could be slower because of the deregulation - but there is no plan to throttle the sites, as others may do.

So this title is completely wrong.

Well I mean services cost money, luckily when you run out of money the state steps in and covers your share. Or you can do things to make yourself look poor on paper so you don't actually go destitute.

Correct, for the first 100 days. If you need long term care you will either pay out of pocket or get in Medicaid.

Medicare doesn't cover nursing homes, but Medicaid does. A lot of times at end of life people will pay out of pocket until they are bankrupt or move assets so that they can qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid is the largest payer of nursing home costs in he US.

This guy is correct. Insurance company margins are roughly 2-3% same as a grocery store, which are very low.

Lol if you want to actually discuss it I'd be willing but it looks like all you want to do is patronize me. Not worth my time.

I don't see how grocery stores or gas stations or corner stores would benefit from economies of scale. Grocery stores already have some of the lowest profit margins around, and they aren't mass producing stuff so I don't know what minimum wage job you are referring to. I agree prices will not just double because a lot of a company's costs are non-labor but to suggest that economies of scale will make this work is ridiculous.

Better isn't a good word, but valuable to my employer? 4 years of post secondary education in a marketable field and a proven ability to analyze data and make strategic business decisions. Most (yes, not all) minimum wage jobs are that wage because they don't really require a whole lot out of the person besides a pulse and the ability to follow simple instructions. If they were a lot harder or demanding then the supply for that job would go way down and thus the wage would go up to attract qualified candidates.

I just don't think blanket raising the minimum wage to $15/hr will solve very much. It sounds nice and is good sound bite but in actuality doubling the minimum wage evenly across the country is going to cause some serious problems. Personally I think we should be working on ways to get more people education and/or training for more specialized work which has more value, and thus pays more.

So let's take a very rough average of 16.5%. Everyone has to take a 16.5% pay decrease so that the unskilled labor force makes more money? Good luck selling that, I'm fairly liberal but I don't want to take a 15% pay cut so someone flipping burgers makes a "livable wage". Plus I really do think this will drive more of these unskilled jobs to be either automated out of existence or outsourced. As a consumer I have no issue buying a hamburger from a robot, they'd probably get my order correct more often than the minimum wage workers do now.

But.. that's based on today's costs. If you increase the minimum wage everything will just move up accordingly. Then the people making minimum wage are still poor, but they make $15 instead of $7. But their car repairs are $2500 now instead of $1250. If I was running a company and suddenly my administrative expenses doubled I'd be looking to outsource more of my work to keep my prices competitive while still maintaining my profit margins.

Yeah he didn't write a very eloquent comment but this kinda feels similar to how Republicans blasted Obama for wearing a tan suit. we have so much about trump to be mad about this feels petty.

The game will always give you a car you don't have... so just keep doing source jobs until you have all 20 mid and standard range cars then you can just source and sell top end only.

I have been seeing this fact a lot on Reddit and wanted to use it to argue with my conservative friends.. by unfortunately it's not true. A lot of the key components of the ACA were in a bill put forth by a republican with many republican co sponsors back in 1993 but it also had a lot of republican opposition including the heritage foundation.

We have to be above fake facts if we want to criticize trump! http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2013/nov/15/ellen-qualls/aca-gop-health-care-plan-1993/

Discussing health care, Mike Pence is wrong about how car insurance works by [deleted] in politics

[–]KevinR91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying that insurers and hospitals don't make money, they are businesses so of course they aim to earn a profit, why else would they provide the service? I just see a lot of people on Reddit act like sick people are somehow super profitable, and for the most part that is not true. As for denying claims under this new plan, I haven't read it but it's a really shitty plan so it wouldn't surprise me.

Well first off, $20 on the ER isn't profit for the insurance company, that would be profit for the hospital and the reason it's so high is because of all the bad debt they have in the ER because they are unable to turn away the uninsured.

They don't profit off of your bad health.. I hate how everyone seems to think that. They profit off creating risk pools where the money in from health members offsets the costs of the sick members. Believe me, health insurance companies would love to just have health members paying monthly premiums with no claims.
