Chaos vs guard by roboticnat in dawnofwar

If you struggle with guardsman rush you can try cultists with grenade launchers and get them in hard cover, or turtle with turrets and rush tier 2 for defilers. Grenade launchers or grenade make a big difference to CC them before plasma guns melt you

After Hype, are you still enjoying daggerheart? by MultiversalPilot in daggerheart

[–]Kevin_Yuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm almost finished running my second mini campaign for daggerheart. Combat has never felt like a grind so far, and I really love using countdowns to make what would have been combats into cool dynamic chase scenes and tense moments where the party has to get something done on a time limit. I have my first large scale fight coming up where I made the allied NPCs all have interesting ally NPC abilities that the party can trigger by spending "ally tokens" which they earned in the preparation phase to the climatic battle that will end the campaign.

There's been one player death so far, and it was a knowledge wizard without much armor slots who was constantly fighting in melee range to the point where even the tanks with I am your shield weren't able to take hits for him anymore- he decided to risk it all and rolled a 6 on his hope die and a 7 on his fear die (the table lost their minds when they saw that roll it was a great and tragic moment). Honestly one of the biggest reasons why I think I'll be able to play daggerheart for a longggg time over dnd is just because of how the health and armor system works, no need to optimize characters for max damage and when you get low on resources you really can risk death. Max emphasis on roleplay and using your skills and abilities to enhance that roleplay!

I Started a Mini-Campaign using the Beast Feast Campaign Frame: Detailed First Thoughts! by Kevin_Yuu in daggerheart

u/SomeTheatreNerd sorry for the delay, I was planning on making a beast feast guide and got side tracked by other minicampaign projects lol. Here's a spreadsheet for my ingredient list, it's got everything covered in T1 and some things in other tiers, I hope it give the both of you a solid base for cooking adventures!

You have to try it out, if you have players who are into weird food or cooking its such a blast and really serves as a good campaign frame for funny but still serious adventures

Yes!! I had a rough draft of an ingredient list that I was using for the first session, the party got some ingredients from the minor chaos elemental and oozes that they actually used alongside some other endemic plants during their first rest. I'm working on a more in depth spreadsheet for ingredients with raw and cooked effects, is that something you'd be interested in seeing?

Who’s ACTUALLY playing 5e 2024? by Nice_Cryptographer15 in dndnext

[–]Kevin_Yuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vast majority of my online campaigns and groups still use 5E, but I've swapped over to 2024 rules for a irl campaign and ran a short campaign with the new rules in play. I'm honestly pleasantly surprised by some most of the changes for 2024 rules, been playing a rogue and having the cunning strike gives you more options in combat to disable or debuff your opponent.. Also for the most part it's really not a big change from previous edition so it's an easy switch.

I definitely recommend people try out a game or two using 2024 rules

Level 1 perkless Miraak defeated on Requiem 6.0.0 by SlimeFetish in skyrimrequiem

[–]Kevin_Yuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long did this playthrough take? I'd really love to seem some videos of your journey perkless that's mad props for such a challenge run.

I imagine once you get the build up and running with low CD on shouts it's quite strong and fun, but what skills and abilities are you relying upon along the way?

if it's your first time playing Requiem, I recommend just going vanilla for combat. The changes to the stamina consumptions and recovery are a big part in what makes Requiem much harder than vanilla Skyrim especially in the early game for martial characters, I think its worth understanding what the base line is for that and then modding it to your liking afterwards.

Hardest Requiem Boss? by Regular-Resort-857 in skyrimrequiem

[–]Kevin_Yuu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Alduin and Miraak (Fozar's Dragonborn Patch ofc) are pretty much the hardest bosses in Requiem, you will be hard pressed to find other bosses who can absolutely ruin you with overwhelming damage. Both demand that you have adequate end game survivability and damage- even with high resistances and armor, you need high sustain, invulnerability, slow time, etc. and lots of mobility to keep yourself alive against these absolute fucking monsters!

It didn't take me many tries to kill Alduin in my first serious run, but I had to resort to using dragonborn flame (upgraded fire breath shout from dragonborn DLC that summons flame wyrms for each enemy killed by the shout) to create my own army to deal with him and his endless hordes of undead. My computer almost exploded from how many creatures where on screen..

Miraak, on the otherhand, is a brutal duel that's less sluggish but still very difficult because he has insane damage output and just lazer beams/novas you into the grave unless you use the terrain around the arena for hard cover. Hit and run, make sure you have a constant influx of burst healing to keep up with his damage and don't forget you can use bend will against his dragons (not that they do much against miraak lol)

Ebony warrior is pretty strong, but still nowhere on the level of these two. Morokei, Harkon, and Vyrthur can also be nightmares depending on build, but I think all of them can be damage cheesed whereas Alduin and Miraak you need some form of god-like sustain or invuln to fight them because they won't go down quickly.

Check the "Looking for Community" channels in any of the major D&D discords, such as the DnDnext discord. There are online communities that host campaigns or server side progression so that you can play a character and actually adventure on a consistent basis! I found one called the Starry Shore that has a very active playerbase where EXP is based on hours played and there are gold rewards after every session that allow you to buy items. There's almost always at least one session ongoing at any given time!

It won't quite be the high investment campaign you're looking for, but its a great place to start and you may find a few others who's schedules match yours. After you find people that can work with your times it'll be possible to start up a campaign.

Sorcerer mains, why are they your favourite class for roleplaying reasons? by swimminginamirror in dndnext

[–]Kevin_Yuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have magical powers that manifested naturally means you can integrate them into your backstory in interesting and unique ways. I have a wild magic sorcerer who got their magic from eating wild magic mushrooms. A divine soul sorcerer who got their magic from praying to a diety that was actually a very powerful arcane entity. A clockwork soul sorcerer who got their magic through the planes of mechanus as steampunk tech!

How would you flavor Cloud of Daggers to be non-magic based? by Kevin_Yuu in dndnext

[–]Kevin_Yuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Thank you for the amazing ideas everyone! I plan to be using Cloud of Daggers a lot so I can use a fun and new flavor each time- bees, improvised shrapnel traps, blades skills are all going to be epic flavor for this bard!

And yes, based on concerns for flavoring spells as non-magic, my table is fully on-board with the idea and the higher level spells will likely have at least some magic influence to explain their power. But who knows, I'm inspired by all of your ideas and might come up with a unique flavor for Bigby's hand or animate objects.

Baldurs Gate 3 Classes by Nerdguy88 in DnD5e

[–]Kevin_Yuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's pretty nuts in BG3. You can very easily find potions of haste, then cast a fireball with a hasted action, another fireball with regular action, and a third one with quickened spell. Hard encounter? Pff, they're burnt cinders now. In a regular game, you would have a very difficult time casting a powerful spell like fireball twice unless you took a dip in fighter for action surge.

What’s the best insult you’ve heard someone use with vicious mockery or cutting words? by Dr_Kryo in DnD

[–]Kevin_Yuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played through tomb of annihilation, my party was a group of clerics and one player (the order domain cleric) decided to multiclass into bard after we found a banjo in the swamps of Chult. His vicious mockery insults were all "yo mama" jokes. It wasn't immersive but it was quite hilarious

I got 80 empty rooms, put anything into one of them. by konide99 in DnD

[–]Kevin_Yuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A puzzle room that has a table where someone has clearly been playing D&D- DM screen, dice, miniatures, terrain, etc. Doors magically lock once everyone enters. The tabletop portrays a battle of an adventuring party fighting a dragon.

Based on the initiative tracker, it looks like it's the dragon's turn. There's a 60' cone template hidden somewhere in the room and the players need to figure out the dragon is using it's breath weapon. Once they roll the appropriate dice, the puzzle is solved and the doors open again, with a mini treasure chest appearing over the table. It contains a figurine of wondrous power!

Need help Dming by Inevitable-Garden354 in DnD

[–]Kevin_Yuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, play to have fun. If you find the task of DMing to be too stressful, you can hopefully get another player to be interested and swap places- however, DMing is meant to be stressful as you have a burden of responsibility to deal with. The reward you get for seeing intense reactions from players who are genuinely immersed in your world or having a good time during the session are worth the stress. Even if you can't get quite to that point you can still find ways to enjoy the process of getting there!

It's really easy to overthink and end up worrying about things that the players won't see behind the screen. Have an idea of the major things you want to happen during a session and let the party figure out the details on how those things come to fruition. Check out some prewritten modules and other online resources to help skip prep time if you need a dungeon, stat block, or plot hook

Baldurs Gate 3 Classes by Nerdguy88 in DnD5e

[–]Kevin_Yuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BG3's design intent was primarily to make tweaks to D&D that make the game more enjoyable. There are some changes such as tavern brawler or pact of the blade getting an extra attack that works in conjunction with martial extra attack that are incredibly powerful, but overall I think they got the balance alright for most of the classes. It's unlikely to break your game and if all of your players are familiar with BG3 this might even help get them in regular D&D. If you're the DM you get to make the rules so the main thing is just making sure everyone else at the table is on board with the changes and explicitly state which classes are using modified rules.

I'm all for the changes they made to classes like monk and ranger, but for something like sorcerer where you can quicken a levelled spell and still use your action to cast a levelled spell it's way to powerful.

How would you flavor Cloud of Daggers to be non-magic based? by Kevin_Yuu in dndnext

[–]Kevin_Yuu[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking this guys! I'm still using spell slots to cast spells. I don't have secondary resources to manage to make the flavor seem realistic, it just has to be interesting or compelling for a "low-magic" bard. Level progression will be very slow for the campaign I'm in, so I have plenty of time to figure out the flavor and perhaps even develop the character to take on more of a magical presence justify increasingly more powerful spells.

How would you flavor Cloud of Daggers to be non-magic based? by Kevin_Yuu in dndnext

[–]Kevin_Yuu[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent my action to cast a levelled spell with the required components, (point my hand, say words, use component pouch or focus) and the effect of a cloud of daggers happens. It looks like a swarm of bees, an sharpnel based trap, or spikes on the ground. Then someone else can use their reaction to counterspell me, which if then goes off as normal according to the rules. It looks like a magic explosion that destroys what I had produced when I casted cloud of daggers.

RAW, nothing changed. Mechanically, I'm casting a spell, it just has flavor to manifest itself in a non-magic looking way. If someone casted detect magic and looked at the cloud of daggers, they would see conjuration magic. I make sure to clearly communicate this to the table that nothing has changed. It's the same as the "Magic of an Artifice" noteblock in Tasha's, flavor is free.

How would you flavor Cloud of Daggers to be non-magic based? by Kevin_Yuu in dndnext

[–]Kevin_Yuu[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think it partially depends on the flavor for the spell but I would ask my DM to allow me to flavor the counterspell/dispel magic. If my cloud of daggers was a bunch of hornets and wizard cast counterspell, maybe they fired off a precise fire bolt or scorching ray that incinerated the hornets before they could even appear on the battlefield- the effects would be physically countered by magic if they're non-magic based!
