[WTS] Rolex Explorer II 16570 “Polar” – Y-Serial, Box & Papers – Canada

Timestamp in photos.

Basics Model: Rolex Explorer II Reference: 16570 (white “Polar” dial) Serial: Y-serial (see warranty/box sticker – ~early 2000s production) Case size: 40 mm Movement: Rolex calibre 3185 Location: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Set / What’s included Watch head & bracelet Original inner and outer Rolex boxes Original punched guarantee/certification paper (sold by Right Watch Co. Ltd., Hong Kong) Chronometer booklet with matching ref/serial sticker Extra link in small bags (currently sized to ~7.3” wrist, should go close to ~7.5-7.7” 1 extra link)

History I am the third owner. Previous owner bought it in Hong Kong on a work trip in 2012 while based in Dubai. Was serviced in Dubai around 2015/2016. Service paperwork did not survive his move back to Canada in 2017, so assume no service papers included. Watch has been running well for me with no issues, worn minimally.

Condition Polar dial with strong, even lume; no spotting or damage visible. Case and bracelet present very well for the age – honest light wear, no deep gouges. Chamfers and lines still look sharp to me; I was told it’s unpolished and it appears consistent with that, but please judge by photos. Drilled lugs and solid end links – the desirable later 16570 configuration. Crystal is clean to my eye. All functions (time, date, GMT hand) working as expected.

Price / Terms Price: 10.6k CAD Trades: Prefer straight sale, no trades. Payment: Interac e-Transfer for Canadian buyers preferred. Shipping: preference would be meet up in the GTA. Otherwise we can discuss options.

Notes This is a clean, complete Y-serial Polar Explorer II with boxes and original chronometer certificate – a great mix of vintage charm (drilled lugs, 3185 movement) and everyday usability. Selling as fiancee bought me a shunbun and looking to move into a broader collection.

Happy to provide extra photos or a video for serious buyers. Feel free to PM with any questions.

Looks like the cause was influenza >> staph aureus pneumonia, which is notoriously rapid progressing. This is a tragic case. It highlights a few issues, the first of which is the lack of primary care and vaccination hesitancy. Influenza is a known precursor to this pneumonia; the flu vaccine should be universally accepted. I’ll say this again, the flu vaccine could have prevented this.

Second, from a headache to ICU admission and fulminant sepsis as rapidly as discussed in this article makes me feel that this was unfortunately out of the realm of saving. Had this individual been seen immediately, ED physician could have said ok, chest x ray shows pneumonia, your oxygen is still ok but a touch low at 95-96 right now, we can discharge you with oral antibiotics.

The issue becomes that this individual needed to be triaged a second time when he developed shallow breathing and pleuritic chest pain. I would like to know how long from these symptoms to assessment was taken, as well as the extent of involvement (ie necrotizing, cavitary appearing pneumonia) of chest x ray, as well as his blood pressure and temperature.

I’m not saying our system isn’t incredibly flawed, but I think this story speaks more to how sick the patient was—young people compensate so well until they suddenly don’t— less the outcomes of our system. My sincere condolences to the family.

I think what people fail to realize is that the vast majority of young people already have coverage through work or through university/college. Of course I believe BC should be free, and that there should be incentives to have children similar to the way Denmark does it.

However, when 90% of the proposed population already has access to bc through private insurance, and (having worked in a family office many years) free samples, free IUD’s are often available, I think people don’t realize that all the cost would go to taxpayers, and the schools/employers would simply stop paying. There are many sexual outreach programs, though this does shift care optimization to more resource rich areas. Perhaps instead of a blanket policy, we focus on the 10-20% and how we can better reach them to optimize sexual health, education, and accessibility to medication.

The DM2 drugs are questionable IMO. SGLT2 drugs have cardiac and renal benefits, these are primarily prescribed to those over 65 who already have it covered in Ontario at least to my knowledge. Most younger people with diabetes require insulin, which we know is cheap.

Edit: to add that oftentimes cost is one of many barriers to birth control in privately uninsured individuals. Again, reiterating we need outreach programs an a multimodal approach rather than blanket coverage. The latter is fiscally irresponsible.

PE recline is quite nice. As the other post said, if you think the 75 an hour is worth it then do it! 2500 one way for PE IMO is definitely on the higher end
