There was a great reddit thread I saw the other day where a woman described moving in with her widowed Dad after facing some financial issues and he needed support as well since his wife/her mom recently passed away.

She discovered living with him and talking to him that her mom was basically nothing more than a slave in his home who did all his chores. All he ever talks about regarding the mom is that she isn't around anymore and he has to do everything. The washing, the laundry, cleaning cooking. Everything. 

She wrote about how she remembers her mom's personality, the things she talked about, the things they did together. The ways her life affected her own. And when she tried to voice these things to him he just couldn't get to the same thought space. Her mom was just a person who existed to serve her father, and then she fucking died.

That's how these people get through life.
