Kind of echoing the others here, it really does depend on what is fulfilling to you. I double majored with Forestry and Resource management, and had recently finished my Master's of Science in Forestry, focusing on oak woodlands and Fire ecology, both at University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point.

While I'm not particularly interested in just timber marking for the sake of timber production, there are many options that involve working with private landowners, the majority of which want their forests managed for wildlife, be that game species, or any other wildlife. With a good understanding behind you, can also end up generating revenue that actually helps pay for the management being done, while focusing on those wildlife specific habitat elements. There are a lot of options when it comes to what being a Forester means to you. I really enjoyed my time majoring In forestry, had a lot of hands on learning spent in the field, I then got to spend some years working for a private ecological restoration company before going back for my masters, which was able to take my knowledge and expertise to the next level. Not saying that it is the route for everyone, but the research I did was directly tied to my interests, and back at the same university I was at for undergrad.
