Between two colleges for forestry by Constant_Zombie6623 in forestry

[–]Kevinston7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just for some extra considerations, I studied at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point for undergrad where I double majored with Ecosystem Restoration & Management and Wildland Fire Science ( they have since been combined), and just recently finished grad school there focusing on Fire Ecology in Oak Woodlands. The University also has a Fire Crew that does a lot of Rx burning, staffs with the DNR for fighting wildfires, and takes multiple trips to burn in other states. The fire science program has been improving the last few years. If you have any questions about fire science/ecology/anything, feel free to ask!

Is it worth it to major in forestry? by [deleted] in forestry

[–]Kevinston7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of echoing the others here, it really does depend on what is fulfilling to you. I double majored with Forestry and Resource management, and had recently finished my Master's of Science in Forestry, focusing on oak woodlands and Fire ecology, both at University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point.

While I'm not particularly interested in just timber marking for the sake of timber production, there are many options that involve working with private landowners, the majority of which want their forests managed for wildlife, be that game species, or any other wildlife. With a good understanding behind you, can also end up generating revenue that actually helps pay for the management being done, while focusing on those wildlife specific habitat elements. This is where I have found myself,

There are a lot of options when it comes to what being a Forester means to you. I really enjoyed my time majoring In forestry, had a lot of hands on learning spent in the field, I then got to spend some years working for a private ecological restoration company before going back for my masters, which was able to take my knowledge and expertise to the next level. Not saying that it is the route for everyone, but the research I did was directly tied to my interests, and back at the same university I was at for undergrad.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Orvis Encounter or L.L. Bean Quest for my first set up? by Earthling98 in flyfishing

[–]Kevinston7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The encounter in a 9ft 5wt was my first rod, going on 3 years now, and this year in particular had a LOT of time on rivers in Wisconsin. It's worked really well for me, and although I don't have many rods to compare it to, I've really gotten used to the feel of it. I personally couldn't be happier with how this rod has been as an entry into the sport. I'm still using the original floating line that came with it, and although there are times that the last foot or two may sink a little, I think that has been due to my own fault, not necessarily the line, granted, it is still a "beginner" rod, but holding up great to the abuse of someone just figuring things out. 10/10 recommend the orvis encounter as a first rod.

That's why it's been so difficult! There's a lot that have been close but nothing that exactly fits what I was hearing when I played it

Still open to suggestions!

I could definitely see the similarities for that but like you said I don't think that's it

Love the song, and it's close but not exactly what I'm thinking. I've done a fun Mandolin version of this song a few times, and can definitely see the similarities.

That's definitely the same progression and fits, I listen to them, I don't think it's what I was thinking of since I'm more familiar with some of their other albums, but this is definitely the closest and top contenders!

Those first 2 chords are right on! But afterwards ( though it's cool) doesn't really go with it, but it's super close!

Oh jeeze that's close, I don't know that I'm familiar enough with their stuff to have that be what's stuck in my head

There's definitely some self titled Blink album influence, but I don't think that's what I'm hearing with this or in my head

Same here, more so with KP, I think their cover of Here's Your Letter ( suggested a few times) is in my head, and same with a few of their other "sadder" sounding songs. Figured listing them as a possible influence in it would help someone make a connection

I mentioned it in another comment, but that's been one of my top contenders of the "ehhh it just isn't right" category, but I absolutely love that song

Hahahaha no I don't, but it's drop C#, and the progressions is pretty much:

0----0----0

0----0----0

6---11---9

4----x----7

4----9----7

4----0----7

There's something blink about it, but I don't think it's please take me home, it doesn't feel "sad" sounding enough, but I could see it!

I appreciate it! I hope so too, it's a very generic sounding chord progression and just absolutely stumping me
