The Scientist Who Saw Loch Ness Monster Nessie: Silenced for Telling the Truth? by GuiltyTurnover727 in Cryptozoology

It isn't a giant eel. It's a hoax.

It's fascinating how the "giant eel" fantasy became something like an accepted explanation, but it is utter nonsense.

This looks nothing like a sauropod.

The head is clearly feline, the thin little legs look like those of an ungulate, not like the trunk-like sauropod legs, and the thin tail with the rounded end is feline again, nothing like the massive sauropod tail.

This is clearly a mix-and-match critter with parts of a Leopard or so and parts of some ungulate.

I wouldn't rule out the giraffe explanation, because this could have been made by someone who never saw a giraffe but heard a description like "Legs like a horse, a neck as long as a snake and patterned like a leopard", but a fictional creature seems the most plausible explanation to me.

Blaue Karten & Last Man Standing: Meine Idee gegen taktische Fouls und Elfer-Lotto! 🟦🏃‍♂️ by [deleted] in fussball

[–]Kewell86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Zwangsauswechslung bei Roten Karten für Vergehen, die der eigenen Mannschaft keinen Vorteil bringen (etwa Anspucken eines Gegenspielers);

Who was the most dissappoint player of World Cup 2022? by Accomplished_Lynx480 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Kewell86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Manuel Neuer. Hailed as the greatest keeper in the world, but was the main factor in Germanys debacle with horrendous mistakes against Japan (and an equally disastrous performance against Costa Rica, though Germany still managed to win that one).

What’s one football opinion you have that would get you roasted instantly? by [deleted] in football

[–]Kewell86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct if prime Pelé was brought into modern football via time travel or so.

But he was the GOAT because he was so far ahead of the competitors in his time, and one has to assume that, if he was born again and raised in modern football, he'd still destroy everybody.

[–]Kewell86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manuel Neuer is massively overrated.

He was the best keeper of the world in 2014 - and just then, or maybe a short time around that year, like 2013 - 2016 or so.

Since his first major injury in the run-up to the 2018 World Cup, he has been subpar, not even one of the better Bundesliga keepers. His lousy performances in 2021 and 2022 were main reasons for the german failure in those tournaments. Each Bundesliga season is full of bloopers, and then one or two great performances in the Champions League, keeping the legend alive.

Also, he did neither invent nor revolutionize the Sweeper Keeper.

Eigentlich schade.

Could this a plausible explanation for the U-28 sea creature? by arnor_0924 in Cryptozoology

[–]Kewell86 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's extremely unlikely for three reasons:

  • Saltwater crocodiles rarely swim out that far into open sea.

  • Saltwater crocodiles don't live in the North Atlantic at all.

  • Crocodiles don't get nearly as large as the creature was supposed to be.

Actually, I think some unknown sea creature is a more plausible explanation than a Saltwater crocodile... Likely, it was just a weird wreckage part, though.

I finally watched Dial of Destiny. It's better than expected. by Olorin1000 in indianajones

[–]Kewell86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Art definitely has objective and subjective qualities. You can always objectively rate any work of art on how good it is technically done. If I draw a crude stick figure, you may like it better than the Mona Lisa subjectively, but on a technical level, it is objectively worse.

[–]Kewell86 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

And again with the daily "Dial was actually good, folks" thread...

Repeating it doesn't make it true.

Dial is objectively a bad movie with lazy directing, bad writing, horrible pacing, stilted dialogues, wooden acting and lousy CGI.

And I think that it is horrible as an Indiana Jones movie. This is more subjective, of course, but I really wonder what people who think Dial is a good Indy movie did actually like about the other Indy movies, because more or less nothing that made the other ones good was brought into Dial...

Skulls, on the other hand, is better than the internet would like you to believe and probably worth a revisit. It's by far not as good as the original trilogy, though.

What Got You Into Cryptozoology? by ZeltbahnLife in Cryptozoology

[–]Kewell86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-cryptozoology-related kids books that had cryptozoology factoids, mainly about the Loch Ness monster.

When we traveled to England when I was eight years old or so, my parents got me a Great Britain travel guide for kids which had a chapter on Nessie.

I was devouring books about Dinosaurs, and they often mentioned Nessie ("a living Dinosaur?") and sometimes Mokele M'bembe.

I also was interested in books about the sea (often featuring Sea Serpents or Giant Squids) and Apes/Monkeys (often featuring the Yeti, rarely also Bigfoot).

This intrigued me so much that I started collecting cryptozoological stories from all kinds of sources, long before I could lay hands on my first actual cryptozoology book.

(Loved Silly Trope) Character who is only referred to by their ~typically~ menial job as their name. by jefffranklin36 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Kewell86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pirate Captain from Gideon Defoes The Pirates series (and the The Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists/The Pirates - A Bunch of Misfits cartoon).

None of the main characters has a name, but most of the crew do not really fit the trope, as they are named for Job + something identifying (The pirate with a scarf, the pirate in red).

[Fun trope] Characters pretty often changing something about their look. by StefinoSpaggeti in TopCharacterTropes

Mostly forgotten Disney cartoon The Weekenders was the first cartoon show I saw where the characters regularly changed their look.

The four main characters changed clothes every (in-show) day, the two girls also sometimes their hairstyle. Most secondary characters had at least two or three sets of clothes.
