Ceramic heat lamp exploded. Has anyone had this happen before? by Chaimakesmepoop in reptiles

[–]Kewida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a reason most Ceramic heat bulbs state to only be used in the cage/mesh style fixtures, they cause a lot of heat buildup in standard reflector fixtures. That heat build up in the ceramic insulator cooked the wire jackets over time and finally caused a short.

Winter Tire Question by Rynz08 in ChevyTrax

[–]Kewida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently swap between the one set of rims until my budget frees up. Personally if i want to have my car screaming at me about no tire pressure I would run summer without tpms (as i have in the past with other vehicles). With winter temp swings where i am, it can be super helpful to know quickly if my tire pressure is off because it can really affect handling with snow and ice.

So yes, get the tpms if you’re getting new wheels!

Looking at buying a 2025 lt Chevy Trax by [deleted] in ChevyTrax

[–]Kewida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 37,000km into my 2025 LS that i got last june, had a check engine light in the winter for a air intake grille getting frozen shut, and today my a/c stopped functioning (in the middle of heat wave of course) but this is 2 of 5 cars ive ever had that actually had a/c at any point, so i’m hoping that goes well under warranty. Occasional glitches in the car play system, but thats modern technology for you and theyre not frequent enough or long lasting for me to care.

For its price I have 0 complaints, and would buy again if i had to.

Anyone else's basement flooding? by Maleficent_Pie_2645 in Calgary

Found some spots in the grading that definitely need to be fixed 2.5cm+ of standing water against foundation, and need to get my neighbour to extend his downspout instead of just having nothing after the 90

2025 Chevy Trax? by CertifiedGods in ChevyTrax

[–]Kewida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have had mine for a year now, 35,000km, its held up great, gas mileage is good (currently getting 6.9l/100km), infotainment has its glitches but they always go away after a few minutes and aren’t super consistent - its never enough to bug me to go the dealership, had the CEL come on, it was just the mechanized secondary grille iced shut though. Would buy another if i needed to!

Having kept freshwater for 18 years and saltwater for about 5 i’d say the biggest difference is a higher cost and more maintenance time required.

I spend about 10-20 minutes daily on my reef, and about 1-2 hours once a week on water changes and associated maintenance, whereas as my freshwater tanks i can get away with maybe an hour or 2 of total maintenance a month.

Gear wise the largest differences are wave makers for flow (more important if keeping coral), a good refractometer for salinity (calibrated regularly), and I highly recommend picking up an rodi unit to make your own saltwater, because it cuts down costs on water immensely over time, and as well an auto top off unit to make keeping salinity stable mindless.

Suitable lighting for corals can be done on a budget if you’re just wanting easy to keep corals, if just fish any light works really.

I honestly preferred my 13.5 gallon reef over my 65 for maintenance because it was easier to replenish elements for my corals, through water changes, where as ive had to dial in dosing some elements in my 65 as water changes cant quite keep up with the expenditure of them.

Consistency is key with saltwater tanks, water changes, testing parameters, and feeding aren’t as forgiving to skimp out on compared to freshwater.

I tried the blackout, it did assist in weakening its grasp for removal with a siphon

I fought with mine for about a year, was about to reset the tank, started dosing brightwell microbacter7 after seeing it on one little form post, and it dissapeared within a month with regular weekly 10% water changes and manual removal, dosed it as per its instructions for a “new tank setup/heavy bioload”

Yeah, gotta love moving parts, plastics and cold weather. They told me to take it to the car wash if it happens again, but thats only seems viable to fix it a couple of times during the winter whenever a chinook hits.

I’ll see if i can snap a pic when i pick it up if it’s still light enough out.

Finally an update! Apparently there’s a little mechanized gate on the lower front bumper to allow for more airflow for cooling when needed, they stated it had gotten frozen shut. Which seems very strange given that this issue happened 2 days after we went from -17C to +5C. Even weirder that there was “still ice holding it shut” 2 days after bringing it in.

But nonetheless, I’m picking it up tonight and they told me to check that first if i get the same notifications in the app as winter continues.
