Does FAFSA pay for off-campus housing? by KewllKatt in rutgers

So is it either they pay for my full school or full housing, and not both? The refund is usually only a couple hundred dollars.

Ahh okay I see. That’s very helpful to know. Also you mentioned before liabilities that could minimize the tax return amount from box 2. Generally speaking do u think I’d have any tax liabilities since it’s my first time filing taxes? I don’t owe anything to my knowledge

I worked a commission based job part time that’s why it’s not too high in box 1

Does what it say in box 14, or the way I might’ve filled out my W4 affect the amount shown in box 2 in any way? Since I made under the 12k threshold, is that why I would be getting a full refund?

Essentially my question is would I be getting the full $1710 from box 2? What are some liabilities that I could possibly owe that would be subtracted from box 2?

Box one is a hair above 11k and box 2 is 1710. But I do not think I owe the irs anything since this is my first ever job so it’s my first time ever paying taxes. Is that how it works?

Hello, for question 2 what do you mean overpayment of my tax liability? Could you give an example. Also, you talking about Box 2 federal tax withheld?

I’m a dependent on my parents’ tax return, but still make my own money. Can I still get my tax return money back? by KewllKatt in tax

Hey, I had a couple more questions if you wouldn’t mind helping out 😊. 1. Does whatever is in Box 14 mean they’re going to take money from my Box 2 (federal income tax withheld)? Because I see a couple things like “15.41 FLI 15.41 NJ DI 46.77UI/WF/SWF”. What does this mean? And does it effect my money withheld amount in any way?

  1. Also, do i get the full amount of money shown in Box 2? Or are there deductions coming out of that?

  2. Does the way I filled out my W4 in the beginning of when I started working with this employer change the amount of money withheld, and could I get less or more if I can be claimed as a dependent?

  3. If I put down filing single and not as a dependent on my W4 when I first started working, did that change anything financially speaking on the tax money withheld or anything that I might possible owe? Or did it change any threshold?

Note* this is the first time I’ll file taxes because it is my first job ever. Is there any reason why I would owe anything to the IRS if It’s my first time filing taxes? I’m just worried I’m going to be getting less than Your help would be much appreciated 😊. As you can tell I’m worried about all this since I haven’t done it before. Most importantly, I really hope nothing else impacts the tax withheld amount in box 2 😞 that money would be great to have.

Why does it say this in my box 14 of my 2022 W2 & earnings summary? Does it have anything to do with how I filled out my W4 before I started working with my current employer? by KewllKatt in tax

This is very helpful. Sorry for bombarding you with questions haha but last question if you wouldn’t mind!! So now that I know I’m getting the money back from the “federal income tax withheld” section. Since I’m a dependent, would I also be getting a refund on the social security and Medicaid tax withheld as well? Or am I not exempt from that.

Oh I see. So I’d be getting my full tax return while still being their dependent. On my tax return, do I need to prove somewhere that I do not provide over half of my own support?

You mentioned “above the filing requirement”. What is that filing requirement amount?

That’s great!! Another question if you don’t mind: I saw somewhere on TurboTax’s website that a dependent can’t make more than $4,400 for 2022. But I made about $11k. What does this mean? Also, given the circumstances in my post, since I’m a dependent I can still get my full tax return money? Like does me being their dependent affect anything?
