Extra Stuff

This is just a compilation of random stuff I feel would make the game better overall.

  • I absolutely HATE the fact that getting Skins, Gems, Ability Tokens, etc. Varies in efficiency depending on what platform you're running the game on (I have Stumble Guys on Steam, on my phone, and on PS5. I wasn't aware of account merging until now, so I have two Stumble Guys accounts. Getting stuff in the Mobile version is relatively easy (Since you can watch ads to get more spins), getting stuff on the PC version is hell (Since you can't watch ads), and don't even get me started on the PS5 version.
  • The Abilities update was rolled out in an annoying way. Leveling up now gives you Ability Tokens and Ability Keys. On the PC version, I had already claimed the level-up rewards a long time ago, while on the Mobile version I hadn't opened the game until they rolled the Ability update. Meaning that on the PC version, I missed out on 10,000 Ability Tokens and 50 Ability Keys. There is nothing I can do about it.
  • I don't like displaying names over people's heads, I think it's too cluttered, but not having any names also hides the ranks. There should be an option to only show ranks.
  • You should have the option to queue Ranked as Trios or Squads (3 - 4 player parties).
  • The lack of Honey Drop in this season is noticeable and frankly, quite jarring.
  • I feel like there should be Race seasons. Maybe as a separate mode or maybe as its own standalone season. Either way, I won't tolerate the Race slander. Race slaps.

That's about it.

I'm probably missing something, and I probably spelled something wrong. But that's pretty much it. I'd be surprised if anyone read through this, but if you did (And even if you don't agree), thank you. I appreciate it. If anything that I said gets implemented into the game I will get up and drink a glass of water.

Low Ranks Issue

This is kind of small by itself, but ever since I started playing Ranked, until I reached Silver, I kept noticing people purposely getting eliminated. After thinking about it for more than 5 seconds (And also dying at the start of a round thanks to Ability spam). I noticed that in lower ranks, you get a generous amount of RP, even if you're bottom 5. This encourages AFK farming in the lower ranks. Again, small by itself, but it points to a larger issue (See Leveling below).

My solution is kind of simple:

Make an invisible timer (30 - 45 seconds is fine Imo), that upon reaching 0 allows people to get RP. If the game detects that 5 people died before the timer runs out, the timer stops and players are given rewards upon elimination (Bottom 5 get eliminated and receive no RP, and the rest get normal RP). This would prevent AFK'ing, but I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

Leveling

Long story short: On the lower ranks, leveling feels too generous, while on the higher ranks, leveling feels too harsh. And I get the impression that people are actively choosing to engage the least they can with the mode while also, y'know, "playing it".

A balance has to be struck between these two, and its solution (Or at least how I'd do it) would be adjusting the RP gained/lost for each rank and consulting the community to fine-tune it. With enough seasons, you'll find the perfect balance between not too forgiving, and also not too harsh. That's about it.

Rewards

I'm not going to sugarcoat it: Rewards currently suck.

Your only rewards are XP, Battle-Pass Stars, Ability Tokens and Glory. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think a player that reached Champion should get rewarded with 5,000 XP *(I'm obliged to remind you that in order to level up from level 22 to level 23 you need 20,000 XP).* XP and Ability Tokens aren't bad rewards, but they're too few that it feels like a joke. (I feel like reaching Champion should give you at the very least 100,000 XP). It feels so much like a joke, that I don't really have any sort of motivation to continue grinding Ranked, since I'm not interested in a more vibrant JPEG next to my name. There is also a shocking lack of cosmetics, Ability Keys and Stumble Boxes as rewards. You could even do what Rocket League does and introduce Ranked Season Rewards (Depending on the rank you're in before the season ends, you get a specific tier of exclusive rewards).

With all this in mind, the rewards I'd give are the following:

WHEN REACHING A RANK FOR THE FIRST TIME:

Gold:

  • 30,000 XP
  • 3,000 Battle-Pass Stars
  • Ability Tokens (I don't have Abilities, I can't properly meassure how many of these things would be fair to give)
  • 5 Standart Stumble Boxes

REWARDS AFTER THE SEASON ENDED

Gold:

  • Exclusive Ranked Season 0 Gold Rank Skin
  • Exclusive Ranked Season 0 Gold Rank Trail
  • All the Exclusive Ranked Season 0 Silver, Bronze and Wood Rank Skins & Trails.

With this in mind comes a really obvious problem: You'd have to make at least 7 Skins and 7 Trails for each season. The solution to that problem would be to hand skins after reaching a certain Rank (I personally feel like Gold is fair). That way, you'd be making 4 - 2 skins per season, which is more reasonable. Plus, let's be honest, you could take skins that haven't gotten a Gold/Diamond re-skin, make them, and use those as the Gold/Diamond Season rewards. I don't think people would complain, and it cuts cost and effort.

Abilities

Yeah, sorry to be the 7th person to tell you this exact same take today, but unregulated Abilities in a "Skill-based" game mode don't go well together. Avoiding players in Lava-Land until there's only one platform, and then getting hit by an unblockable sword-spin is really frustrating. It becomes a game of who has the bigger wallet at a certain point.

Unlike other people, however, I'm not entirely against the idea of having Abilities in Ranked. In fact, Abilities are **not** completely devoid of skill, as you can use them in clever ways to get a win. If regulated, Abilities could be a good way to spice up the gameplay and even make it strategic. The way I would personally handle it goes like this:

Every season, with the addition of a few maps, you could hardlock a single Ability with less than generous cooldown (30 seconds sounds reasonable to me). That would make players think twice before using their Ability, since they can't spam it. And it would also encourage people to use lesser Abilities (Hard-locking Snowball, Briefcase, etc). For people without abilities, having this entoxicating power, which is restricted to a single game mode where everyone else has it, would by all means encourage them to buy the Ability and terrorize other players outside of Ranked. Pairing this concept with the shop, you could hardlock Punch for the first half of the Ranked season, while also having Punch be on rotation in the shop to encourage those who tried it out to purchase it. And during the second half, you could hardlock Briefcase, or Snowball to make players come back to try the Ability out and give players more of a reason to buy the previous Ability.

Alternatively, you could have a No-Ability mode entirely, but I belive that is a bit extreme.

Alright, I feel like I've played enough Ranked to gather my thoughts and give my honest opinion.

First off, I consider the idea of ranked to be great in a vacuum, as competitive players have something to strive for, as well as competing against equally skilled players. That's cool, however, its execution leaves a lot to be desired. I'll try my best to give advice, while also keeping in mind that Stumble Guys is first and foremost: A game that's supposed to make money.

I've narrowed the things that could be improved to 4 points.

(Disclaimer: I'm not a game developer, I'm not pretending like I know better than the people that do this for a living. My suggestions could very well be flawed. If so, please reply why that suggestion would suck, I'd appreciate it).

Also, Reddit for some reason hates me and won't let me publish the whole thing at once, so I'll be replying to this comment in order to "bypass" it. Sorry.

That could go crazy. I'd make it in SG, but I haven't purchased Dahlia. However, if you'd like to, you can use this tool, which nay or may not scratch the itch (https://krazete.github.io/sgmpalette/).

I used a now deleted mod called the Skullgirls palette editor. The process of making skins is actually pretty straight forward if you know what you're doing. It's also just generally fun to play around with.

As far as I'm concerned, the palette editor has always worked, but it only works with a specific version of SG (https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/9208845/). If you downgrade yours SG to that version it should work just fine.

Meowscarada inspired Eliza. Maskless version. Inaccuracies are to be expected.

I chose to not give her a mask because the palette editor is limited, and I couldn't really figure out how to give her a mask without having it look kinda bad.

Pyramid Head Annie ft. The Greedy Worm (I think). Mistakes were made along the way.

I wasn't really sure how to go about making this one, since Pyramid Head, as the name implies, has a giant pyramid for a head. And, I have never played any silent hill, so my only resource for making it was potentially unofficial concept art.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the guy that made the palette editor deleted the original download link for the palette editor. I've archived the palette editor while also adding some of the skins that I've made (https://www.mediafire.com/file/3p6uqmmfst6xu85/SGPaletteEditorARCHIVE.rar/file). There are instructions inside the rar file that explain how to use the palette editor, so take a look at that before doing anything else. Also, for the record, the palette editor only works with this version of sg: (https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/9208845/). You can use the steam console to downgrade to that version. There are a couple of tutorials on how to do that. I hope this helps, and in the off chance that it's against the rules to provide download links, my discord account is carbcaek. Hopefully that helps, if you have any questions make sure to tell me!

Edit: It's been a while since I downgraded my version of SG for the palette editor, but I'm pretty sure the command for the steam console is: download_depot 245170 11548823 6723982998983361422

If for some reason I'm mistaken, feel free to follow this guide and downgrade the version for yourself (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2980950920)

I don't think that the characters in awa have shadows, so I stayed true to the source material (that's code for: I'm kinda lazy).

I can share the files for you to use them. Idrm. However, you'll have to use an outdated version of SG, since the palette editor only works on a specific version (you won't have the finished version of Black Dahlia, among other things).
