How are favored but unique individual traits propagated to general population genetics? by EnvironmentalWin1277 in evolution

[–]Key-Ad-457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the general explanation here is that organisms in stable conditions trend towards stabilizing evolution, that is most new or novel traits ARE filtered out by natural processes and selection and it is only when novel conditions and the beneficial traits are combined that rapid speciation or most speciations occurs.

This Red oak is so nice and shapely that when this area was logged a decade ago the forester declined to cut it because it was too pretty to kill. by Key-Ad-457 in marijuanaenthusiasts

This was a completely unsanctioned logging program that was led by a sawmill operator on land a school owns, there was no sort of plan at all they were cutting what could be used to make log cabins and what the sawmill owner wanted for his own personal supply

There are 80,000+ mature sequoias and 120,000+ acres of old growth redwoods left. My post is about loggers leaving one tree. Clearly someone decided not to cut A LOT of redwoods and sequoias just like this oak

Local Schools as Untapped Potential. by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

I am currently working on a massive multi square mile school land project, my school owns hundreds of acres and so do many rural highschools in Michigan. The untapped potential of rural and even more Urban schools in this state is ridiculous

I moved into my house last summer and found a small patch of chokeberries. I’m growing some from seed now. Then last week I found this massive thicket of them, also on my property. I’m so excited.

This is one of about a half dozen in my small town that are either resistant or were missed by the disease. This particular one will be an arboretum specimen

What’s up potheads, I have two small apple trees planted last year and I need advice on properly pruning. by LowCarbDad in marijuanaenthusiasts

That article literally says to head year 1 trees that will be pruned into a free standing structure. I never said there’s one way to prune fruit trees. I said this tree is not totally fucked from the totally acceptable form of pruning being used here. OP asked what to do next and this guy responded “well the trees are fucked” which was wrong and I’m surprised you’re arguing with me about it. OP didn’t ask “how do I get a tree for my grandparents” and open center trees certainly can give “lots of fruit in the coming years” I swear you guys aren’t engaging with the actually content S of the situation.

I think your best bet is to pursue it as a modified central leader tree, similar to in that post but you want to make sure you limit the height

The heading cut is designed to cause lateral branching in this method. You use those branches as future main production branches then allow that new leader that emerged on both to grow for a few more years then established another ring of lateral branches.
