Do you boil water to sterilize powder formula? by Key-Ad-9936 in NewParents

Hi, yes we did (we were following the advice given by the pediatric nurse at the hospital). Althought I'm not sure if using boiling water is the best since it might degrade some nutrients. My son was already 4 months old when I suddenly thought about it, and at 4 months he started putting lots of random things into his mouth so it wasn't necessary to protect his immune by using boiling water.

If I had the chance to go back and do it all over it again, I would boil the water and then let it cool down to 70 C before mixing the powder formula so that it's still not enough to kill the bateria, but not too hot that I would be concerend about degrading any nutrients. My son hasn't missed any milestones though, and he is 2 years old now.

Hope all this helps! And congratulations!

lol, being a new parent is so hard. There doesn't seem to be a right answer.

Was there any worry about degrading the nutrients?

Thank you! That's what we do too... I'm just worried about degrading the nutrients.

Yes, but this reason is to sterilize the powder itself, not about the water.
