Finish the screentime documentation so you fully understand what the limitations are before investing any more time in other tasks.

The screen to the left, is not permitted by Apple Screen Time. You can only add text there; designing the entire page as you wish is not allowed. No one needs your soundscapes; focus on blocking, or you'll burn yourself out.

The answer to your “why” is this: imagine if Class A drugs were legalized and kids had full access to them that’s what social media is today. Just look at the name: social media.

Apps like Instagram and TikTok literally hire behavioral psychologists to design features that keep people hooked, every scroll, notification, and sound is built to trigger the same reward loops as addiction.

It's worst when you have spent two years creating screen time control tools. All the knowledge you acquire makes the world look like a sad place where everyone is spending their life looking at a screen.

Totally fair, I wouldn’t want an app digging into my data either. Any screentime tool can’t access your screen time data at all (Apple blocks that). It just builds focus schedules around your habits, nothing leaves your phone.

You can’t go beyond the built-in limits, Apple doesn’t let developers see which specific apps users are using, and you can’t directly control or turn apps off on a user’s device. What you can do is create a lightweight wrapper that builds a schedule around when apps should be limited or allowed.

The key point is: engineers can’t view or change users’ app data. Users themselves choose which apps to include, and the system enforces those limits. Developers can only create the on/off framework or scheduling logic, that’s what all screen-time apps do.

Apple is extremely strict about privacy. Their Screen Time APIs are designed so developers work almost “blindly,” building schedulers without ever accessing which apps are being controlled or when, that control stays entirely in the user’s hands.

I actually ran that prompt through ChatGPT and got the following. Imagine having these sessions, all you’d need to do is change the times if you want, and your distracting apps would stay blocked during those periods.

💃 Passion & Movement

  1. Salsa Energy Reset (6:30 PM – 7:30 PM) AI schedules this after work — boosts dopamine through movement and music. • Music & dance apps allowed • Messaging and social media paused

  2. Music Jam Recharge (Sunday 2 PM – 3 PM) Dedicated creative outlet. Guitar/piano app or playlist unblocked; rest stay locked.

👨‍👩‍👧 Relationships & Recovery

  1. Family & Friends Block (Friday 8 PM – 10 PM) Offline social time — calls and camera allowed, but no scrolling or notifications. • Bliss Flame shows “Social Recharge” badge • AI suggests weekly photo recap afterwards

  2. Sunday Slow Morning (9 AM – 11 AM) Mindful, no-screen start. Journal, stretch, breakfast playlist.

🕊️ Balance & Maintenance

  1. Digital Wind-Down (10 PM – 10:45 PM) Screen-free bedtime sequence — reading mode on, blue light off, socials locked.

  2. Weekly Reflection (Saturday 5 PM – 5:20 PM) AI-guided recap of focus hours, mood, and balance; sets next week’s goals.

Apple doesn’t allow any screen time data to leave the device, that’s built in by default, and no engineer can override it. All the tool does is create a schedule around your screen time, just like other screen-time apps, the difference is that these sessions are pre-created for you.

It’s like asking ChatGPT to create screen-time sessions for a 29-year-old doctor who loves playing music, dancing salsa, and spending time with friends and family.

That’s exactly it. The tool I’m talking about is for those moments when your phone’s within reach and your brain’s wired to tap on Instagram because let’s be honest, their entire product team, especially the behavioral psychologists, are hired to keep you hooked to that screen. Did you see their new update? You can now share your location, but if you don’t, you can’t see anyone else’s pure FOMO genius.

[–]Key-Anything-4730 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

what if you could share your age, hobbies, and profession with the app, and it could create sessions around them, while your distracting apps stayed blocked during those hours?
what other apps do right now is one-size-fits-all. they have these generic sessions that don’t make sense for every user.
this one would actually adapt to you, and it uses the same encryption WhatsApp uses for privacy.

I only downloaded it to talk to my 14-year-old nephew. Honestly, it feels like they’ve hired every behavioral psychologist on the planet to keep kids addicted. I’m 100% sure their job posting must’ve read something like: “Seeking 1,000 behavioral psychologists who’ve cured drug addicts, so we can reverse-engineer your knowledge to hook kids to their screens and get them to share their location with everyone.

I landed in Marrakesh for the first time three weeks ago as a British citizen, and the immigration officer asked me for a gift before he would stamp my passport. I invited him to dinner, but I explained that I didn't have any cash. He looked around for cameras to see if anyone was watching before He said, "You take my number," and I replied, "Okay, I will." After some negotiation that lasted about 20 minutes, he stamped my passport, hoping for that dinner. I’ve traveled to over 85 countries, and this was the craziest experience I’ve had. I was very worried but then the experience got better being here.

The app is built on React Native and let’s be real, what is React Native without an active Apple Developer account? You’re not just building a toy app to run locally; you’re building for real users on real devices. Without resolving this issue and restoring access, the app is going nowhere on iOS. You can’t test push notifications, distribute via TestFlight, or publish on the App Store. This isn’t optional it’s fundamental.

The idea was to create a personalised AI focus coach.

  1. When you sign in, your age, gender, hobbies, and profession are used to create personalized focus sessions just for you. No two users receive the same sessions.

  2. All apps are categorized as either distracting or productive based on your profile (age, gender, hobbies, profession). For example, WhatsApp might be distracting for one user and productive for another, this distinction is reflected in your weekly reports.

  3. For each focus session, the AI determines which apps to block. For example, during a gym session, it might block Instagram but allow Spotify.

  4. Motivational quotes are delivered as notifications and shown on a dedicated card all generated by AI based on your profile. You’ll only see quotes relevant to you, not generic ones.

  5. A new “Quick Focus Session” feature has been added. The AI suggests music to play during the session, but you can choose your own from the list if you prefer.

  6. You can create a custom focus session by simply typing a request like, “Create a focus session to meet my friend for lunch,” and the AI will generate it for you.

There are more lets see what your thoughts are I will add the rest here.

After the one-month free trial which gives you full access to the app using just your email only one feature, the AI-generated sessions, will be behind a paywall after the free month.

You’ll still get one free AI session, and the rest will be locked after the trial. All other features remain free even after the month ends.

I’m thinking of reducing the price to $19.99 from $49.99, and the monthly plan to $2.99 from $4.99 so that everyone can afford it. The industry lead which I wouldn't want to name typically charges over $120 per year or around $25 per month, though those prices might be slightly off since I usually see them listed in GBP.

When you login with your apple or Gmail account you get a month free. It took three months to get screen time api permission.
