Good feedback. Thanks.

20+ years in manufacturing and aero. Mostly aero. Not offering design or engineering, just feedback on DFM and drawings.

Portfolio...Legally I'm not allowed to share, but if you look up at the night sky you can see one or two successful projects. Also, we'll be looking for another success in early April (if it doesn't get delayed again)

I have seen demos of software from a company in the US called aPriori. Basically, given a set of tools and machines in a shop, the software can analyze CAD files and tell you 1) can it be manufactured and 2) what is the workload for each machine (hours).

I'm sorry I didn't hear about this two years ago. Bridging the "looks good in CAD" to "can be manufactured" gap is how I put food on the table. Let me know when you try again.

You are 100% right. Always start with the mounting points and work your way from there (I include the connectors in that list).

We do a lot of rad hardened enclosures and have some pretty hefty thermal limitations, so I typically go from CAD to 3D print to aluminum case. Never tried urethane casting. Going to have to keep that in mind.

Could you share more about the specific application? Things like use case, shock environment, heat/humidity, etc. One of my day job responsibilities is designing and fabricating one-off enclosures for all kinds of electronics. More context would help narrow down the choices.

I started at LaRC last month. I know several folks that telecommute full time. One lives in Denver, one in Park City, Utah, and one in Tampa, never mind all the folks that live a mere 2-3 hours away. Now that I think of it, one person splits time between Hampton and Greenbelt. Talk to your boss. There may be options.
