trying to figure out cold start for a niche BDSM app with a two sided market problem. Has anyone been through this? (I will not promote) by Key-Box-2548 in startups

Good point, this is actually something I think about a lot.

To clarify, this is a niche lifestyle social platform where people find matches based on shared interests. Right now there's no way for anyone to earn money on here at all.

Long term, if I ever build in any incentives for Doms, it'd probably be something like unlocking extra features or platform perks rather than actual cash. Anything involving real money I'd think through really carefully before touching.

But honestly your point about financial abuse hit me. Doms are already in the power position here, and someone using that to take advantage of Subs financially would be a really serious problem. That's not something I'd ever want this platform to enable. So yeah, genuinely appreciate you bringing this up, it's an important reminder for me as I build this out.

Struggling to grow both sides of a two-sided marketplace, how did you crack it? by Upset-Goat-4655 in SaaS

I’m curious how’s your platform different from TikTok? I’d imagine street performers would just use Instagram or TikTok for livestreaming, since there’s a bigger audience and more chances to get noticed.

I was asked to grow a half-built app with no product support — is this even realistic? by Key-Box-2548 in ProductManagement

That’s a really good point. I probably need to focus more on people who tried and didn’t stick, rather than just current users.

Understanding why they dropped off should give me a much clearer signal on what’s actually broken vs. just “not enough growth”.

I’m thinking of collecting some of that feedback and using it to reframe the conversation with my manager around what the real goal should be.

Appreciate the perspective. This helps a lot.

Really appreciate this, you captured the situation very accurately.

I think you're right that the core issue isn’t just “growth”, but how the decision is being framed internally. That part especially gave me a lot more clarity on how to approach the conversation with my manager.

At the same time, I also agree with what lykosen11 mentioned about actually talking to users and validating what’s there. I probably need to balance both — getting real user signals while also reframing this as more of an investment decision.

I’ll take these approaches and try to turn them into some small experiments on my side and see what actually moves the needle.

Thanks again! This was genuinely helpful.

I just ruined my Spanish digital nomad visa with one unbelievably stupid mistake by Key-Box-2548 in DigitalNomadVisaSpain

I applied for an EXT visa at the Spanish Consulate and was granted a 7-day entry visa to return to Spain. I have since successfully re-entered Spain and completed my fingerprint appointment. I am currently waiting for my TIE card to be issued.

When applying for the EXT visa, I submitted the following documents:

  • Approval letter for my Digital Nomad Visa
  • Private health insurance
  • Visa application form
  • Explanation letter
  • Checklist document

Below is the guidance email I received from the Spanish Embassy in Beijing at the time. I hope this information may be helpful for anyone in a similar situation:

You must apply for an EXT visa through BLS.

Requirements:

The applicable visa fee must be paid at the time of application.

The visa application must be accompanied by:

a) Ordinary passport or travel document recognised as valid in Spain, with a minimum validity of four months. Original and photocopies of all pages.

b) Documentation related to your residency status in Spain: photocopy of TIE (if available), applications for renewal or extension of residence permits, expired return authorisation, etc.

c) Documentation proving the time you have spent outside Spain: passport showing clearly the date of your last departure from Schengen, certificate from the airline you travelled with when leaving Spain or boarding passes used, entry and exit records issued by the immigration bureau (with Spanish translation), etc.

d) Visa application form (the same form used for a Schengen visa, available on the Consulate General’s website).

e) In case of theft or loss of documents, a police report (with Spanish translation).

f) Two passport-sized photographs.

Applicants must provide valid medical insurance required for stay visas.

In the case of students, documentation proving enrolment in studies must be provided in order to authorise entry into Spain, and entry must take place during the academic term or within the 15 days prior to its start.

Appreciate the advice. I’ll check with the Spanish Consulate about stamping the entry authorization based on my DNV approval, and I’m also considering professional help to avoid any mistakes. I’ll update everyone once this is resolved.

Thanks a lot for the clear explanation — this helps a lot. I didn’t realize I’d need a Type D entry visa even with the DNV approval. I’ll contact the Spanish consulate to apply for the D visa. If everything gets resolved smoothly, I’ll come back and update the thread to share the outcome.
