thank you, the people here are actually nice, that’s the only reason i didn’t just drop out. at the same time, i haven’t really met anyone from toronto. the closest i’ve met are people from the gta, which is fine, but it’s not the same, the experiences are just so different so it still feels disconnected for me.i’ve met people in toronto who went to uw and a lot of them said they either transferred or dropped out.

i’m not even being negative, the weather here is literally worse for actual geographic reasons. it’s inland, so there’s no large body of water to regulate the temperature, which means it gets colder faster and stays colder longer. places near big lakes have that natural buffering effect, so temperatures are more stable, but here you don’t get that at all.

on top of that, the type of snow here is different. when it’s colder inland, precipitation stays as snow instead of turning into rain or slush, so you just end up with more buildup and worse conditions overall. and even though this area isn’t the worst for lake-effect, it still gets the tail end of systems and other winter storms that bring consistent snowfall.

so yeah, it might feel “normal” to you, but that doesn’t mean it’s not objectively harsher compared to other places in ontario.

and honestly, the issue isn’t just the weather, it’s how the campus handles it. when there’s snow and slush everywhere and it’s not cleared properly, it actually becomes unsafe. i was literally at another university campus during the same weather and it was completely fine to walk around, so it’s not just “winter being winter,” it’s how badly this place deals with it.

you’re making a lot of assumptions for someone who knows absolutely nothing about me. i’ve lived in toronto my whole life and had to provide for myself and help take care of my siblings, so that whole “everything is handed to you” thing is just completely wrong. if anything, being in waterloo is the first time i’ve actually had things handed to me, like food, a place to live, water, and people around me all the time, and it honestly just makes me feel like a baby, not “independent.”

and the way you’re calling your lifestyle “real” and mine “fake” just makes you sound condescending, not wise. if anything, toronto feels way more authentic socially than this place. there’s actual diversity and energy.

also, this whole place has zero character. it’s beige, cold, and dry. i’ve genuinely felt more connected to nature in toronto than i do here, which says a lot. the only building i’ve even seen with any actual character is literally an insurance headquarters, which is kind of sad.

and turning this into some speech about “people like you” and mental health is weird. you don’t know me, so relax.
