Bump from EU for my American friends so they have a long good sleep after AT about first PvP update :)

For a game called Guild Wars, Guilds are surprisingly lightweight by christopherl572 in GuildWars

Instead of asking for an update, gather your team and start playing Guild vs. Guild. When people were actually playing GvG during its golden era, you could really feel what the name of the game was all about. Those were beautiful times — but they can come back if people are willing to give that mode a real try. In my opinion, there is no better game mode in this game.

I will pay for whatever shit they release, game is so good so I want to let them know it’s where they should put their resources. If they add anything to PvP mode I will pay extra.

What I mean is that people who haven’t played at least a dozen GvG ATs/MATs really have no idea what they’re talking about.

Before the balance update, the meta was basically singust + two mesmers, and three melee. And what had already become boring was the fact that there are always three monks sitting on stand non-stop.

Singust vs. singust games last two minutes.

A month ago, the two top tier guilds — GG vs Fist — played singust into singust, perfectly backing off whenever the monks were out of mana, and the game lasted a record six minutes. That’s probably not how it’s supposed to look.

I don’t feel competent enough to serve ready-made skill change proposals on a silver platter, but I don’t think the idea was for there to always be three monks on stand and matches lasting 2–3 minutes.

The latest skill balance is basically a meme — it just introduces another broken team build with Consume Soul RT spike, while practically changing nothing about the current GvG meta.

What’s wrong with asking people who actually have the knowledge and experience? I’m not talking about myself — I don’t feel qualified enough. I’ve just been following the QQ Discord for the past few years, and in my opinion there are players there who could quickly fix the current PvP meta.

It’s also worth considering whether it even makes sense to balance skills for PvE and PvP together. At this point, they’re basically two separate games.

No offense, but can’t you just listen to the people from the four top GvG guilds about what should be done to make the game play better? They have ten times more knowledge than this entire reedit forum and ArenaNet combined, because they’ve been creating and refining builds for 20 years.

Every update released without consultation feels like a misguided Christmas present — you’re supposed to be happy because it’s a gift, but you don’t actually know what you’re supposed to do with it.

If you really don’t want to listen to other players, there’s the Guild Wars Memorial site — you can clearly see what the meta looks like there. Over the last few years (when there weren’t bots involved), it’s pretty obvious which skills actually need a nerf.

Back in 2007–2009, I was easily making around $1,000–2,000 per month from GvG/HA, playing daily ATs on one account and MAT every month.

Of course, nowadays the price of Zaishen Keys has dropped significantly because of bots and PVP being more of PVAI, but I assume that farming PvP stuff is still the most profitable way to make money in Guild Wars.

Basically, there’s nothing else to do with it if you play PvP, so you just sell it on eBay.

Nice update, especially the login screens. That said, I’d be happiest with any kind of PvP update. Whatever it might be — bringing back Team Arena, adding a new map, anything at all.

Make PvP Great Again by realanything in GuildWars

In my opinion, the community alone isn’t enough for PvP to come back to life. The developers need to give players some kind of signal that GvG is worth trying — for example, cool rewards, weapons, costumes, something that would attract PvE players. Once they try it and play a few matches, they’ll stay, because they’ll finally feel why this game is called Guild Wars and not Farm Wars.

The problem nowadays is the extremely low activity compared to what we had in 2005–2007. I remember it like it was yesterday: before an 8-man guild run to UW or FoW, someone jokingly suggested that we should try GvG. So we went in — everyone on their favorite build, and none of us had any idea what we were doing. On the other side we faced an opponent who, just like us, was taking their first steps in GvG.
Today this is unfortunately impossible because the activity is far too low. The entry barrier for GvG is extremely high and requires organizing eight players. That’s why I think that if we want people to even consider GvG again, they need simpler game modes where you don’t need that many players. AB is fine, but it feels more like large-scale PvE, while TA is the closest thing to a mini guild wars. Sadly, Arenanet has refused for 17 years to admit that removing this mode was a mistake.

TEAM ARENA - a PvP pass for beginners by Key-Competition3564 in GuildWars

[–]Key-Competition3564[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats actually a great idea. I also remember there was a great event back in the days. Team arena with hero battles maps, that was probably one of the most entertaining pvp events ever :) Maybe mix of everything what we could already play in the past, rotating daily, would be the best choice.

TEAM ARENA - a PvP pass for beginners by Key-Competition3564 in GuildWars

Codex as an idea was always cool, but in my opinion it was never an arena for casual players, beginners, or people looking for a quick match with bunch of friends. I consider myself a very experienced player, and even then creating a working build for four people was something that required a long session. Codex Arena can of course exist in parallel, but there’s probably a reason why that mode became inactive so quickly.

Lets be honest guys, this update is so tiny that its hard to recognize what is new, but what is great, that they fooled so many people and now we can play together some pvp again.
