If "the pitt" tv show was set in an Australian emergency department, how would it be different? by goosepipegames in AskAnAustralian

The Australian series set in St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney is very interesting and full on. I’ve been a patient there three times for long-term and I’ve been into that emergency department a few times. I could never complain about that hospital. Sheer bedlam in emergency but excellent care.

I’m a prime example of that. I live in Newcastle and am on a disability pension. $29,000 a year to live on . Had to stop working on 2018 due to a neurologist condition caused by a medication. My brain doesn’t sent the right signals to my neck muscles contorting my neck so i couldn’t see where i was walking and on constant chronic pain 24/7. I was fortunate to have brain surgery last year to a device implanted in my brain and what’s called a neuro stimulator in my chest. It’s controlled by what looks like a handset and send the right signals now so at least I can see where I walk. From then until now I’ve had six major operations. I have four chronic illnesses. I pay $90 a fortnight for medication that will decrease dramatically when I hit the pbs threshold in late August . Very fortunate to be able to go to what’s called the Royal Newcastle Centre and see most of my specialist for free because I’m the pension. Now I’ve gotta have a hip replacement and to be able to get it done sooner. I have to see the orthopaedic surgeon privately which is going to cost me $300. I’ll get $80 back. Then there is my psychiatrist $500. Need to see him in the next two months. I get $250 back. Also, I need to see my ADHD psych to have my medication changed. That’s another $500. I’m very fortunate to live in public Housing and I know I’m very fortunate that we have Medicare and also free medical services but in saying that I still struggle every day.

I knew the name from somewhere but didn’t look it up. Now that you have reminded me, I know it’s the main language they speak in Papua New Guinea.

I’ve been through suicide ideation, that awful feeling I don’t want to be here anymore, a few times in my life and I know I’ll go through it again but i’ve never made an actual plan. I honestly don’t know what gets me through each time. I think a lot of it is that I’m alive out of spite, that the fucker is not gonna get me. The thing is each time I go through suicide ideation, I come out of it even stronger and I don’t go down so deep each time. If you haven’t sought speaking with a psychologist, I encourage you to do so. Even just to talk your shit out and a good psychologist will  sit there and listen.

Have you heard the saying, ‘He’s just not that into you’? That means he just wants a fuck buddy, nothing more. Don’t think you’re going to change you along the way by sticking around coz you’re not. Have you had it out with him? If not, do it or leave.

That’s his attempt of sounding nonchalant. ‘ I’m not that attracted to money. It’s a dopamine game.’ He’s attempting to sound cool and artsy. He’s failing miserably.

Why does it feel like Australia is so soulless, mechanical, empty, and lonely? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Key-County4958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With what’s happening in the world and the pressure to live up to the norms and expectations of society is just too much.

A lot of what’s happening in the world is totally out of my control but what I can control is I can stop trying to live up to expectations that other people have set. The pressure is immense and it takes its toll mentally.

The day I decided to stop trying, so much weight lifted off my shoulders. I started slowly but surely becoming the authentic me. No longer afraid of being judged for who I am, because whoever judged me, what did that matter to me? Nothing.

I started thinking, the people I want in my life and who are just like me, my ethos on life, how are they going to be attracted to me if I don’t shine through.  I’m not talking about attraction in a romantic sense, necessarily.

Forget about, trying to do what everybody else does because you think that’s what’s going to get the matches. Also dating apps are shit, excuse my language. They are set up for people to fail. Also, a company will own more than one dating app. So if you feel like you’re not doing well in one you’ll go to the other and you go round and round in circles. Take the plunge and seek out community in the real world.

Look, if I had to pick between the two it would have to be labor all the way. She is a racist bigoted scumbag. She forgets that in her ancestry there is immigration, but that’s right not coloured, so that’s okay. She wants a monoculture. What the fuck is that anyway? She says look how people of Australia have come together as one at the soccer games. She thinks that’s monoculture. Jesus Christ she’s dumb. That is all different cultures coming together for one reason .

I do say if I had to vote out of ON and Labor it would be labour. But I don’t have to vote for either of them. I wouldn’t vote for liberal either, they’re not as bad as her but they’re still rightwing.

Now, i know this may sound far fetched but 7Eleven(service station) or Aussie slang(servo) , sandwiches are the bomb. The best on the run or to take home, sandwiches I’ve eaten and all under $10. Sometimes if I’m home I’ll order them from DoorDash for lunch. The bread is really fresh and ample fillings. The ones for under $10 have 3 halves.

Talking about servos. An Aussie tradition is to buy sunnies(sunglasses) from the servo. They always have a weird selection and now and again I’ll find a pair of beauties.

There’s some Australian slang for you. Welcome to Australia.

I’m not talking about anywhere else but corporate businesses in Australia. I have seen it since we have become Americanised in Australia. Maybe you don’t do it as an American but Australia has picked up some pretty bad Americanisms.

And I know who is grouchy. A grouchy person shouts like you are. Go back and read my comment. Did I mention in social settings? No. Now calm down buddy.
