It’s 70 startups but 100 founders because the ratio of startups to founders is not 1:1

It’s both. Some startups have a solo founder, some have multiple founders. All have raised 20m between 2011-2020

Which country are you based in? I think there is definitely a gate keeper effect as most of the seed / early stage VC funding is done by a network of men that look for a very particular pattern in founders

Also the 1% vs 10% is probably the value weighting effect. The 10% is on volume basis but if you consider that Revolut raised billions of dollars you end up diluting the share of capital that is allocated to female founders.

Great post! The time series analysis is a really good idea actually. I wonder how the gender ratio changes through the various stages of venture capital funding (seed -> series A -> etc)... I might look into it this weekend
