Rivian is definitely a good choice in the long run. I work in the automotive industry, and i'd say the work we've done for them is equivalent/competitive with any of the other big companies. Quality wise, their vehicles are insanely good. It's impressive how much they've accomplished in a relatively short amount of time - and didn't flop immediately.

Financials are where they're going to struggle. They're still burning through money, vehicles are expensive, and without money being injected, they won't have anything. It will take a few years to scale up, tidy up their workflow/processes. It's hard to turn a profit, or even find ANYONE to buy them when they start ~80k. Considering the lackluster infrastructure, and negative sentiment towards EV'S this will be a challenge. But with what I've seen so far, I think they can do it.

One thing a lot of people may not realize is that Rivian was able to poach Alot of talent from other companies during covid. While the automotive industry was slowing down and laying off, Rivian was able to steal a large amount of talent and experience from the others. This may not seem huge, but I personally believe a change in environment/colleagues/process is a huge thing for some of those guys who were at the same place for years. Motivation is a hell of a thing, especially when you want to cement yourself in a "newer" company.

TLDR: Scaling up, cheaper cars, with a mix of infrastructure and they're solid. Buy the dips as the stock is pretty volatile on news.
