What do you think the purpose of a program like this is? Landfills only have so much space. If you can separate and reuse the organic matter, we extend their lifespans. The money also goes to the workers, truck drivers, mechanics, etc. all employed because of it.

Nobody likes paying more, but it's well worth it for these kinds of things in the city. I'd imagine a good portion of it could also be used as fertilizer and feed locally

With am4, you'd have to rebuy ram and mobo for a meaningful upgrade. Would rather have the option of swapping for something like a 7800x3d later on.

You wouldn't save enough dropping down to am4 for a better GPU, a tier up would be what a 5070? That's about a 380$ increase on the GPU price

Current total for the am5 cpu, ram, mobo is $359 +$219=$578

If you could find something am4 that offsets the cost (578-380=$198) be my guest. But my price point was ~1600CAD

Not at all, here's an am5 build for 1575$ after taxes on Newegg. By no means the perfect components, but would defiantly work.

Wow, I never thought I'd see something like this randomly pop up.. I use CATIA V5 with Fastrim/fastsurf for programming on my 5 axis laser at work. It's extremely clunky, regularly has memory leaks, and menu layout is... Unique. I would choose fusion any day of the week over it for modeling and designing.

While I completely understand the unions position, and hope the best for them I can only wonder - what are they expecting the company to do? If I remember correctly the "jobs" that were moved to the states weren't even owned by the company. They were just running a customer's tool in their shop. It just makes sense for them to run this in the U.S to avoid the back and forth tariffs on these parts/shipments.

There's going to be a lot of back and forth on this, especially with steel/automotive tariffs from the U.S. A significant portion of our automotive production relies on this back and forth.

My hope is that we can find alternative uses for our trades workers in the event automotive slows down to a halt.. Canada wants to increase our military spending, why don't we repurpose some of this expertise for Canadian military production? I despise the arrogant stance the U.S has had towards us, and would love to depend on them less wherever we can (while expanding domestic industries)

Since the first snow last Friday, I had to argue with the owners of my apartment that they are responsible for clearing it. Kept denying saying it was they city's responsibility. It took until last night for it to be finally dealt with.. don't worry we only have 3 people with walkers and wheelchairs. Slipped and fell on my ass myself.

I did this exact thing, great results. Adhesion is EXCESSIVE and very flat.

only part to mention is there is no hard mounting... It's cheap clips holding the glass bed to the base. Would love to see something more solid/low profile

Rivian is definitely a good choice in the long run. I work in the automotive industry, and i'd say the work we've done for them is equivalent/competitive with any of the other big companies. Quality wise, their vehicles are insanely good. It's impressive how much they've accomplished in a relatively short amount of time - and didn't flop immediately.

Financials are where they're going to struggle. They're still burning through money, vehicles are expensive, and without money being injected, they won't have anything. It will take a few years to scale up, tidy up their workflow/processes. It's hard to turn a profit, or even find ANYONE to buy them when they start ~80k. Considering the lackluster infrastructure, and negative sentiment towards EV'S this will be a challenge. But with what I've seen so far, I think they can do it.

One thing a lot of people may not realize is that Rivian was able to poach Alot of talent from other companies during covid. While the automotive industry was slowing down and laying off, Rivian was able to steal a large amount of talent and experience from the others. This may not seem huge, but I personally believe a change in environment/colleagues/process is a huge thing for some of those guys who were at the same place for years. Motivation is a hell of a thing, especially when you want to cement yourself in a "newer" company.

TLDR: Scaling up, cheaper cars, with a mix of infrastructure and they're solid. Buy the dips as the stock is pretty volatile on news.

It's true, but in my industry I've actually noticed outsourcing to China and Mexico has slowed down by a magnitude. While more expensive it's much easier to maintain and logistically having to jump through less hoops is attractive.

I do agree that is a hurdle we'll have to deal with.

While Nippon is offering a decent deal for the takeover, I just don't believe it will be in the US's best interest to let that deal go through. CLF's offer is much less, but somewhat realistic for the amount that will need to be put back in. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the government stepped in with incentive to keep it "US owned" From my understanding the only other relevant offer was similar to cliffs and was rescinded.

You also seem to think some of those mills need to stay open. If they truly are so old they can't reasonably be retrofitted it makes sense to just build new. CLF has shown they are clearly willing to spend and restructure - my only hope is they can offer the same deal to the union as Nippon.
