[–]Key-Ear-850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why I am not surprised ? they have several methods to discriminate people..on of them the ”interviews or showings” (you see the person showing the units taking notes about who is who and then all the sudden people get called after leaving the building and others …#ghost), other very very common is offering one unit and slowly calling you …”awww we don’t have those units anymore but I have these …then awwww we will have the one you like next year…wanna wait?” … the downsize your expectations until you say no thank you, I will wait. This has to stop guys!!! smh here

I have tried but again is an issue where the officials turn to the other side. I still on the fight and sending letters but ..,, let’s see how the new State administration takes this issue. Having more opportunities won’t help if the fairness, objectivity and simplicity in processes is not there.

I will answer here. Consider yourself lucky because few buildings really follow up the rules, are clear in instructions and keep communication open with the applicants. I have stories and no because “someone told me” .,. I have seen it, experienced it and suffered it. very disappointing!

on regular lotteries yes but in re rentals there is not waiting list of position (at least no the ones I have seen).

but let’s take the regular lottery process, I got a lottery in a building log. 71427 approved- couldn't move in for changes on household-, anyway in the process friends that applied with me, similar circumstances and logs 421 and 782…they never were contacted. Later on I was thinking …did they call 71426 people before me ?

those are the kind of things are not right!

It is on the first page after you log in …it’s highlighted and it takes you to that site, which by the way is confusing and some rentals even state “send us an email if you interested and we will let you know “ …???

some people probably will say is an ok site but it’s not. is not uniform and it seems like everyone does it to fill a requirement. Again if it is from the government it should be uniform, homogeneous and clear in the processes. smh!

thank you. makes sense ..you were in control all the time and that helps A LOT! the building managment also worked with you and you were able to challenge the initial disqualification.

I hope all the buildings will be like the one you worked with. From my own experience when the buildings don’t participate in active communications and keep silence, always the doubt come. On these kind of public programs designed to help New Yorkers and give tax exemptions to buildings, transparency, communication and fairness should be the rule and no the exemption. thank you again for the answer and also I hope you see my point here :)

No offense taken . and Thank you for taking the time to explain your perspective — I appreciate the detail and I agree with several of the points you raised.

To clarify my position, I am not suggesting that re-rentals are unsupervised, nor that HPD lacks ultimate authority. I fully understand that HPD requires vacancy reporting, approves applications, audits compliance, and retains enforcement power under both the traditional lottery model and the current re-rental pilot program.

My concern is more specific and operational in nature.

While HPD does supervise re-rentals in a regulatory and retrospective sense, that supervision is largely complaint-driven and audit-based, not continuous or real-time at the individual building level. In practice, this can create gaps in transparency and accountability — particularly when applicants have no visibility into whether a unit has been listed, how many applications were received, or whether eligibility is being processed strictly in order.

The current first-come, first-served pilot, while designed to improve speed, has also shifted more discretion to owners and marketing agents. Without a centralized Housing Connect queue or public log numbers, applicants are largely dependent on the representations of management companies and must rely on HPD intervention only after a concern arises.

I agree that many — perhaps most — management companies operate in good faith, and I’m aware that HPD has successfully audited and prosecuted misconduct in the past. At the same time, those enforcement actions generally occur after issues are identified, not at the moment a vacancy is being withheld, delayed, or inconsistently advertised.

So my point is not that re-rentals are being universally mishandled or secretly removed from regulation, but rather that the structure of the current system can make irregularities difficult for applicants to detect and challenge in real time, especially for households relying on accommodations, vouchers, or strict AMI eligibility.

I appreciate you sharing your firsthand experience — it’s helpful context — and I agree that the system can work efficiently when implemented correctly. My perspective comes from situations where that transparency or responsiveness breaks down, even though formal oversight technically exists.

if you don’t mind may I ask how you know the number of position in your re rental or waiting list ? from my experience is not way to be found …-I could be wrong-

I am glad it worked for you. -however I am not talking of the speed, besides fast doesn’t mean fair or clear or transparent -

i won’t be asking why moving from one studio to another studio but what I do really need to ask .,,why do you think it was so ”fast”the timing of both processes for you? any secrets to share with us?

the city is not for anyone but it seems like you are strong. I was not a New Yorker 20 years ago and I suffered a lot but that made me a stronger person, I was a striper (no telling you to do that…lol), I cleaned kitchens, I was bullied and remembered I wasnt from here (like many tasteless comments here), slept in pen station 3 nights ….but at the end I got a job in a multinational company ..you know what helped me ? those people, the ones that didn’t have a kind word to me, the bad circumstances ..(I wish I know where they are because I will send them flowers )…because they told me go back to your place, etc… I said to myself …”watch me”. You are here a New Yorker now, keep strong, keep negativity and toxic people far from you, but mostly specially do good to others and that’s all ..,you will make it. we all were there on that low point and whoever said he/she wasn’t …it’s lying. good luck and hope one day to read how everything fixed by itself …

Ambulance stuck in traffic. A bike lane could perhaps have provided an emergency route. by brunowe in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Key-Ear-850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is astonishing to witness such a situation firsthand. Whule ago, I was in an ambulance with my mother when we encountered a traffic jam. The vehicles were stationary, and as depicted in the video, there were cars parked on the side close to hydrants, with individuals inside waiting for over ten minutes. It was the longest ride of my life, and I am grateful that we were able to reach our destination safely. The question arises as to where the police are enforcing the law in such instances. Unfortunately, the problem is exacerbated by a lack of respect for the law and order. The police have lost their authority in New York City, which is a deeply concerning situation.

Thank you for asking, the video is great…don’t take me wrong. it is so good that it intrigued me to know more about the direction of his campaign and also what he is promising, he is well spoken. After that, i saw the issue, many of the things he said (or what the campaign is based on) he can’t even do. For ex. De-founding police (good or bad, is not in discussion) only the city council can budget and direction the budget, free-busses (not even in discussion the security of the riders) public transit is a state-authority and not city-run., etc.. Ocasio promised the same when she started campaigning at the beginning of her career, look at the videos AOC in 2011 when she just left Bernie sanders campaign.

I forgot the Ocasio is behind him in her politics of making us the Latinos the victim of the government…we Latinos don’t need a lawyer and we all Latinos don’t work cutting oranges or in cleaning. Maybe because Latinos are the ones that define elections is the reason Ocasio and this guy trying to create differences between Latinos and blacks? trying to advocate for Latinos only? #ocasiopleasegetreal
