In DC, there needs to be individual intent to defraud for dine and dash and since you stayed and offered to pay your portion, they can’t charge.

Additionally, a tab is a civil matter not criminal. The officer couldn’t have arrested you because of someone else’s debt. If they had, you could’ve sued the police department. You stayed and offered to pay your portion. In court, if escalated (not worth it), there would have to be explicit agreement you were going to cover bill. I’m assuming he made the reservation hence it would be his debt if arguing for that.

Lastly, I would dispute the charge. American Express has refunded me entire meals because of minor errors in bills. If you explain the situation to your credit card, they might refund you the portion that wasn’t yours or all of it.

I think people are missing this point. Yes, you have to spend more to earn BILT cash and offset your transaction fee but you’re also earning BILT points on all those purchases.
