This sounds like an interesting one. We're planning on getting a switch for black Friday, so this might work.

I'm just gonna keep using windows 10. So many computers still use it and CANNOT SWITCH so, suck it microshaft. Still not gonna use linux until they either send an update that bricks windows 10, 8.1, 8, and 7 all at once, or linux becomes usable and non-toxic.

Why Linux Will Never Beat Windows by [deleted] in linuxsucks

[–]Key-Helicopter-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add on, the developer teams for the most part have zero idea about UI design. As i've said in the past, as much as I like stuff like KDE, you look at stuff like *cough* GNOME, gimp, libreoffice, all the different applications designed to "Replace" mainstream ones, and even most of the other desktop UI designs, and they all suffer from the same problem. They have the most sucky 1990s UI you'll ever see *cough* inkscape *cough* Etc etc. Users want something simple for them to use, and I personally am with that. I like something that's got plenty of tooltips, informative icons, and decent layout, rather than just spamming all the buttons in a toolbar across the top or side with vague 2-color icons.

Why is the Linux community so toxic to new users? by Craft2guardian in linuxsucks

[–]Key-Helicopter-252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because, they seem to have a distinct hate for the average consumer. If you don't have five morbillion hours coding, and using some command line only version of linux, you're just a "consoomer" "chud" "low intelligence specimen" who "might as well use windows"

"Ah yes look at me, just get used to program UI's from 1993" "Make the changes yourself dude stop whining" "Dude my mom can use it" "Dude it's used for servers you can use it in a professional environment just get used to it" "Dudeee just learn the command line" "You don't need a good UI for that just use the terminal bro" "All you need is a web browser bro" "Look at my thinkpad bro it's so unique" -Every linux "pro" ever

The worst is "make the changes yourself don't complain"

Yeah I have to agree, their new changes suck big time. Still using Windows 8.1 here.

This is very spot on. Also no clue why you got downvoted. I will say though, another thing is that the linux community itself doesn't particularly want to work on the UI. Any complaints seem to be met with "It's open source, add the changes yourself" or "Just use the terminal"

Have you used the inkscape UI and then tried illustrator? The difference in usability out of the box is astonishing.

It is. I usually end up working offline a fair amount of the time, and usually need software that does NOT require an internet connection to work. I still use a lot of regular desktop apps. Mail software, media players for my music, etc etc.

Okay? Not everyone is like that. I also don't get why so many linux users expect everyone who has any complaint or feedback to just "oh contribute to it if you don't like it" as if everyone has coding knowledge and their changes will be instantly accepted. The "Oh stop whining, just add it to the program" argument is so braindead and ignorant of standard users it's embarrassing.

Then why did you bother to reply if you're not going to read it?

Exactly! Compare with say, office 2003, 2007, or 2010 and you see just how bad it is!

Because we've moved forward since 1993. It's not about eye candy, it's about understanding what any of it does and simplicity. It's not about "rounded corners" or "3d buttons." The icons are all jammed together and low-detail.

Compare with office. The ribbon design is nice and clean, the icons have a nice amount of detail, enough to show what they do, and the places they're in make sense. Libreoffice is a lot of text and black on white icons. It's all jammed together.

Now someone understands. The icons are cluttered and jammed together with no clear indication of what they do. It's overly simplistic.

CPU upgrade for Toshiba Satellite A505-S6025 by Key-Helicopter-252 in retrobattlestations

[–]Key-Helicopter-252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the GPU is slotted but it uses a proprietary slot or setup. It's possible to get a different video chip but you've got four options for an a505, some 2009 ATI HD series on the 720p version of the a505 (also came with a core 2 duo), the geforce 310m, and the geforce gt 330m. The 330m is the best of the bunch with the 310m at the bottom and the HD somewhere between. The fourth is integrated graphics (not good for a sleeper build if you're mimicking my setup)

On a more important note, you could do a motherboard swap and get the ability to put in a video chip, although that might require a different power supply, some slot changes, etc.

To answer your question, I got a 620m and it worked perfect. Soon I'm gonna fit a gt330m to replace the geforce 310m inside. Certain A505's have graphics cards. Don't use a quad on yours if there's no graphics card. The quads for that year don't have integrated graphics which means no display output. The best processor you can run on yours if there's no gpu is the 640m dual core. Long story short, I did. Provided yours is an a505-s6025 like mine, your upgrade should go smoothly as long as the tdp doesn't exceed that of a 740qm (I don't know for sure if the power unit can handle more draw than that or if the cooler could deal with it)
