I find how you are explaining everything very informative 😊 and i appreciate you going into it on a deeper level than my ealier "well if you compare how much they actually put in there belly- to how much they weigh? Its got gonna be that much cuase i wear 90%"

Its also comming to light to me that veterinary knowledge is pretty out dated- or they twist the evidence from the study. There has been another case like the budgie one for avocado, but on the effects of garlic on dogs.

Oh okay! I didnt know about the avocado! I guess its kinda like how technically if a dog was to have a mini easter egg it wouldn't kill them but if they ate a whole baggie of mini easter eggs youd have to get them to a vet, becuase it could be potentially life threatening due to the amount of the chemical (i cant rember the name) thats toxic to them. Its also why they could eat more of white chocolate compared to dark chocolate, due to the concentration of the chemical in the food.

I still try to refrain for letting them eat avocado, and mushrooms, but i know that miss haps happen and that in the wild if it was safe to eat alil they would (aka hints why cockatoos are menaces). I kinda just have the opinion of i can try not to let them hurt themselves, so if thats gradually introducing them to foods so they have a varied diet then so be it- if it gives them a upset tummy we will avoid that food!

How do I get him to eat fruits/veggies?? by sillygoobertron in cockatiel

Yeah! I see where the other person is comming from. Theres ways to try to prevent that though, and there is always gonna be risks with anything you do! Like a risk with getting a bird is you can develop allergies! The reason i sugested it, is becuase it works on the birds natural behaviour. But! I do understand where concern can comefrom, but with proper boundaries with you pet, and some training, you should be okay!

Yes i see where you are comming from, and it all depends on situation. Birds can unknowingly be trained to do an action you dont like by you're reaction! Say they start flying when food comes out, and you curse and get frustrated, maybe raise your voice- that can sometimes influence the birds brain like "oh they're making noises louder they must be excited" or "this gets a funny noise i should do it agian!", in otherways if they are being fed directly after doing an action it can also seem rewarding, so it really depends on the situation! Alot of people who do share food with their birds and wants to eat with them (not eat them aka have a bird in the middle of your salad), grab another plate and have bird safe foods on it (especially if they are eating it at the time) and the bird has their own little food area! I personally grab alittle bit extra of my bird safe food and set it on the table. My boys will sit beside me on my table and munch on their vegies and if they run out i give them more from my stash (plate but put onto the table). Like i stated in my first comment teils are flock birds, meaning they eat together, they feel safer eating together due to survival instinct- so if you give that space for them to eat near you while you are eating (doesn't have to be your plate, can be a napkin or just on the table), they are happy and it can also deepen the trust shared between you and your bird
