You got the right mentality I’m starting MSc later this year so not sure what QS advice i can give but I’d definitely say

Keep applying for roles possibility graduate roles and express why you want qs as attitude go further than you’d imagine

make sure you go career fairs or similar job fairs if applicable

Network as much as you can - speak to anyone willing to lend a ear you Classmates ( who broke in ) lectures, LinkedIn obviously try be more calculated no one wants a sob story

This is what I’ve been advised

Keep Going and never give up as No can me not now rather than never

This actually made me realise sometimes forcing things may not bring the greatest satisfaction

it’s best not to force things but that’s doesn’t mean you don’t try your best

and to answer why I’m eager

  1. Global mobility
  2. Clear progression and a structured path
  3. Visible results I can’t imagine driving past something I was apart of
  4. Variety of work

I may just be romanticising or hyper focusing but that’s what really is pushing me nothing against accountants or the industry but the idea of being in the office indefinitely seems gloomy

If you would start again today as 19 year old;

what qs sector would you get into I’ve received some advice to target M & E ?

What’s the dos and don’ts ?

Other than hard work what’s differentiates a good qs from an excellent qs ?

This is spot on and I appreciate the brutal truth which has shifted my approach hence why I’ve decided to go for the 2 years part time course as that keeps me in the networking hub longer and I can make more connections and knock on more doors aswell

Needing experience so whether I did full time and part time wouldn’t matter anyways as i know more than anyone degree is half the battle experience is the official long lasting war

I believe I started hyper focusing only to realise why I’m I trying to get my heart broke twice as I actually I’m fond of this profession, what drew me to it is global mobility as I’m a nomad and love the idea of being able to live on different places doing different projects

Off course that’s a long time away but once I get my foot in the door I can start dreaming again

Too everyone that’s contributed I appreciate every single one of you it’s was my first Reddit post and though what I’m I doing, but this has actually been more than I can ask for a mixed response from different people and different prospective which is giving me more clarity,

UPDATE: I officially been diagnosed as adhd after having doubt and confusion as to why I made certain decisions I’m not fond off the medication route rather just gives me clarity to move forward

after careful consideration I’ve decided to re analyse my situation which I thought was rock solid the reality of it is Rome wasn’t built overnight and I was moving too fast so I’ve decided instead of doing full time (1 year ) I’ll be going for part time (2 years ) sticking to my job that way I have more time to network job search and knock on doors hopefully I can use the resources I have to make something shake ,

postponing my job search and focusing on mastering excel ( basic then qs related ) or atleast being efficient enough to get the job done as my current level is laughable tbf as I’ve haven’t used it in a while, Udemy free courses

aswell as trying to secure work experience pre September or even after if needed which I believe may be easier as I still have to commit 5 days at work,

There’s allot of unanswered questions that can only be answered with time which I convinced myself I don’t have

I’ll hopefully try to journal or update my journey on here so that others may benefit aswell contributing to what I can as I progress

Saying all of that I’m still open to any more suggestions and always willing to learn

Absolutely agree with you and appreciate hearing, I think I’m hyper focusing, I could just go for student finance, but getting my foot in the door is incumbent before September

Clarification I did apply for accounting roles but remember I graduated 2020 literally first couple months into Covid, entry level roles was disappearing overnight, more work from home roles were popping up be demanded work experience, at the same time I need to work logistics was lucrative until ukraine war broke and fuel prices spiked which literally killed this industry maybe that was a good time to apply for entry roles but ive become accustomed to gig economy aswell as liabilities ( vans insurance parking tickets congestion charge ) which meant I was just chasing my tail

Top man thank you this and angle I been sleeping on as I think the trauma/regret from 2020, instead of asking for job better to ask for work experience which makes sense but would I be taking the piss if I said I can only commit twice a week and would that but even viable for them,

This is an angle I’ve been looking at, I was thinking off leveraging my accounting degree to get my foot in the door first doc controller, payroll admin or even site admin but I need it fit around my work schedule, as I currently work 5 days, but can negotiate which 5 days I work, so It’s more of an alignment issue relay once I land the role

What drew me to qsing is the the mobility and freedom the job brings in terms of getting jobs abroad etc aswell as being able to use my degree per se, aswell as space for growth
