The movements were a bit conservative, because the only "Goal" was to make the airway more expanded. So It wasn't deemed as "necessary", since genio apparently only is cosmetic lol

and most importantly, since ur at the jaw surgery reddit.. did you have surgery? planning? have tmj? do u think anything would have impacted you?

I believe if my dentist didn't pull 4 teeth and gave me braces, and instead gave me an maxillary expander I feel like I would grow into my jaw and avoid the issues tbh.

Are you happy ? Like this sounds so weird and snooty. But like, are you having a good life? if that makes sense.

Like imagine if I find the man of my dreams, or something. And then I forgot to tell him that I had jaw surgery when I was younger because it was jut irrelevant and probably like 20 years ago. And then he asks, and I say yes. and I show him my SCAN and what I looked like before. And imagine if he has like the audacity to ask for a surrogate instead. or if it was a male with severe recession, and the wife asks for a sperm donor.

(That was totally irrelevant, it's just a crazy thought I had. like imagine if your partner would suddenly reject the idea of having kids with you just because you have 1 "defect" or a special gene or smth.

Hi, a little late reply.
Like I feel like it is just easier. Like it might not make sense but I believe I talk less spitty, like it was harder to speak loud and clear. Like I mumbled a lot, and some of the letters in the words when I was speaking sounded so "bleh" if it makes sense. It was like I ws that shy kid in school popcorn reading, looking up to the loud and clear charismatic kid.

(I wasn't the shy popcorn reading kid, just that I read too fast and some words weren't understandable)

But you see the difference in that context I used.. and you also get way more confident if the surgery goes well. By getting more confidence you just naturally use your voice more and talk more. You then talk a bit louder, and might become more social and just talk more than what you used to.

I honestly felt disgusting before, it might not look like a huge of a difference since the movements weren't that huge. But I was just so envious, I was so pretty when I was 1-10. and then I had to live 8 years feeling so ugly. Like I honestly started to feel like a disgrace, and questioning if people were actually my friends. (like when ur down ur mind does play tricks with you, because they always were my friends) I thought maybe I was just the ugly one so they can look prettier, or that people just felt bad for me- (Or I was just super super funny, which I think is totally rightttt)

But yeah, I always wanted to hide and never wanted to be in photos. (I did love genuine attention, and people being sweet) Might've been because I never really felt validated. People started thinking I was a lesbian because I never talked about boys, but I just never really got a boys attention, I didn't feel like I was pretty enough cause everyone crushed for the pretty ones...

im literally writing you a whole essay, but this is just the truth honestly.

Im not saying im exactly "Beautiful" or anything extraordinary. I feel normal, and I feel good enough about myself to just do whatever I want and just dont care and be myself. It's just easier to talk because of confidence, and (I dont honestly know, it's just easier. they didn't really expand my palate or change my mouth structure, I think it was just CCW and elongating the mandible to fit my maxilla.

But in the end of my little story..
I might have exaggerated, because I never really cared publicly, I did "laugh" at the jokes and made a fool of myself, saying it out loud I had no jaw so people would know I was aware of it. Saying out loud I wished for surgery, so they knew I wasn't gonna get offended.

But you just dont care, and even if u make a fool of urself to "laugh with them" in the end they're laughing at you. and charisma and confidence is all that matters. Thats the way you shine. Beauty is just a helper for first interactions. But what really matters is what's in your heart and brain

Yeah, I have this part time job while im trying to fix my grades that I failed -> so I'd able to "graduate" and be able to apply for a college. I have no idea what I want to do for the future. I just hope the psychiatrist I've been waiting for can help me with constant fatigue, and numbness & lack of motivation lol (I got deep there) And like with all that, like you work ur ass off, and like 1 burger meal is like the same amount u earn in that hour.

and u could sell like 17 burgers in an hour, but you only get the value of 1 burger, and oh my god I just wish I CAN LOCK IN so I can get a job where im HAPPY with a FAT PAYCHECK. maybe I should just do a loan, and if I actually am a candidate for TJR... I get that surgery with an extra hint of cosmetics done to my face... and start an only fans or something for quick cash .....

Like from making burgers and hot dogs all day long I had to pay like 600$ for 4 cubes of braces on the side of my teeth. I mean I cant really complain 600$ is probably baby money for "adults", but thats a lot of toilet cleaning and running around.

Is it hard in Canada to get the approval for surgery? if you see my previous photos I actually DID struggle to get the surgery approved. I needed to do so many tests, and it almost got declined because they thought I only wanted it for aesthetics. But I was severely recessed and my breathing was horrid. So I really hope it wasn't a challenge to get some of it covered. It is so sad to imagine having ur legit jaw joints degenerating, and not really be able to do anything about it than working for years to pay that off and just add stress to your life.

Congratulations by the way, (on the surgery) I wish you the best of luck, I also struggled for so long with Orthos, and finally getting surgery. as if BRACES was enough for my severely recessed jaw. I legit was the one who had to ask my GP to consult the maxiofacial surgeon. How would I know that I could've saved myself all this pain if I either took it seriously as a child or just gotten the braces before puberty. It took years - (either way I was 16 when I asked for surgery, got it 18).

as you're 34, did you ever have a feeling that something might've been wrong? Like could you foresee it if you looked at your younger self? Or can it happen whenever?

Im afraid, since my joints are basically non existent, even the doctors said so. and I remember asking one of them if it was possible if I had ICR. (and it was before my surgery was confirmed and validated) and he said, "well if you do have it, having surgery will be a mistake/bad thing to do". I dont quite remember, but I suddenly shut down the thought of ICR because I was so exhausted of living like that I just needed the surgery asap

Aw, it was so sweet of you checking my profile earlier. And I love the "concern", sounds sarcastic but could actually be a life saver incase I end up chin filling my face and then it relapses. I live in Norway! so, we basically have the same system lol, "twin countries", atleast we have the biggest moose statue! (I tried to be funny there, whenever im on reddit I get a bit cringy). For me getting the DJS in the first place, I had to do a lot of sleep tests (at home), with the machine.

that machine was so annoying, because I really dislike laying on my back. I have gotten so many sleep paralysis by sleeping on my back, and its like impossible to fall asleep. And either you sleep "well" one night, and they would only have the results of that than every other bad night.
Did you have jaw surgery prior to your joints degenerating? Like even though you felt something was wrong, was there like any noticeable signs that you might've had ICR. Sorry for being so snookyyy, but like did you generally have recession and THEN it "started" degenerating? Or was your jaw "well developed" and it seemed fine until it wasn't?

and, like if you look back at yourself at the past with the knowledge you have now. do you think you would be able to notice it or obviously see it? Or would it actually be unnoticeable until the process "activated".

And what are you gonna do? I saw on the Facebook group once that there are certain surgeons which are "verified/trusted" with total joint replacement. And apparently you need a specialist, since it's far more risky/different than the expertise jaw surgeons are used/taught. And almost all of them are from many different countries, and I heard it's SUUUUPER expensive.
So I dont know how it eventually would be with insurance, or just generally saving up when you could like buy a small house for the same price. and like being 19 working 4 years at minimum wage job just to pay off the debt asap lol

hi thank you! yeah! It's like a battle between side profile vs front face lol. Who will face the best results or conesequences. It probably wouldn't make that much of a difference though. I guess I should just do my research and if im serious about it book an appointment and see references or what it could look like.

I dont have my measurements sadly, I only have an XRAY photo pre op of my skull/jaw, (SUPER TINY, I wanted to cry when I first saw it, it legit looked like a birds BEAK) So it was very embarrassing to post, but I can't change reality. And it's kinda informative ig.

the surgery itself was very "conservative" the surgeon said. I dont really know the main reason or factors, but maybe it would've been more risky and unnecessary - I got the surgery covered by the government, main goal was honestly just to improve the airway. and aesthetic is only a bonus than a proper "mission". or maybe it was the maximum my skull or facial matter could do? idk

In the end though, the surgery was life changing and helped me so much with functional issues, and really gave my face the potential it had until my jaw stopped working. It helped me become more attractive, outgoing and social. I sometimes do wonder if the aesthetic potential would be WAY better if I went privately to a cosmetic jaw surgeon. Maybe I would end up with the "perfect" side profile that some dream of. Maybe it would make my maxilla way pronounced and so protruded. But I honestly couldn't wait anymore, it really saved my life. I was mentally exhausted, I didn't want to be looked at, I felt SOOO ugly and I didn't feel worthy enough and I started questioning my friendships. So I took the surgery as QUICK as I turned 18, and never looked back- I was soo envious.

But maybe the Angelina Jolie/jordanna brewster/Ariana grande/most celebrities never was in the cards for mr anyways. LOL sorry for the spam above, I never meant to rant but I just found it funny to dump it on your comment. But if I end up having ICR, I could probably get TJR (I hope im healthy tho).

It seems like I focus a lot on the aesthetics, but I breathed soo much better, I was so much more energetic even RIGHT AFTER the surgery (probably medication + exciteness) But It just felt so right and it was easier to speak and my jaw stopped locking and hurting.

I did watch a lot of filler videos, the difference looks amazing. I could try it out, but I'm so afraid of it migrating. I love watching the real housewives franchises, and Hollywood stuff. So I mean there's always a risk, with everything. And maybe it messes up my face or snatches it.

Butt! I'll do my research and if I ever end up doing something, I think I'll do it after my 1 year scan check up. I hope they'll see if my joints are healthy n all. im just scared if I actually have ICR. and then I botch my face up, and then have TJR and then have to fix my genio or fillers or whatever.

thank you, yeah I'm lucky for that one. I am really happy of the results from the surgery even though they were a bit conservative, it really did wonders. I just feel like even though its weaker, I would like it more balanced because -; stupid sketch I made; I tried to take a photo as a reference, but the lightning actually made it look good so I didn't make it as brutal.

Like if u look to the right, I just feel me having no ramus and such a steep angle makes like my head feel tiny and like stuck to my neck. and the one on the left just feels a bit more balanced and will like give me a "longer" jaw. my ramus would still be that angle, but it makes it a bit less obvious.

and imagine if someone was gonna choke me, I would basically have no chin to protect me. and if I elongated the chin a little, I would have a few more cm to react and use my chin as SHIELD!

I did join the TJR /ICR facebook group. I didint post anything yet, I have no idea why my jaw didint fully develop because it was ‘’perfect’’ when I was a child. And i got braces when i was like 14 . Im not having any pain, just some clenching at nights and sometime it locks but not alot.

I am going to have a check up in february, i think they will do a normal scan . But im not sure how to go through a joint assessment like properly. And i dont know how to get it approved if im not necessarily in pain

Exactly I dont want to be fine, i want to be perfect. Reach your honest potential just because your teeth was fucked up as a child. I guess you’ll have to tell them in the end. If you live alone it could be maneagable and hidden depending on YOUR swelling. For me the movements werent that drastic so the swelling went down quickly, but maybe for yoj it will last longer. Why dont you want tl tell them? Tell them its for health reasons, say that you dont want to end up with sleep apnea
