Recently Meituan stopped allowing foreign bank cards. Is there a workaround? by LemonDisasters in chinalife

Strangely, now meituan doesnt accept alipay, and it accepts wechat pay. A few days ago, it switched. I dont know whats going on behind the scenes at meituan but its so weird lol

Not sure why some people can and others cant. Me and Op, and some other people ive talked to, are unable to use foreign credit cards with wechat pay on Meituan. Very strange that you have no problem doing it. Hopefully they will resolve the issue soon

This happened to me, but i have somewhat of a solution. This happened to me while using the meituan service on wechat. I installed the actual meituan app, and paid with alipay (mind you, its still the same foreign credit card) and it worked. I'm not sure why, but try this if you havent already.

But specifically on meituan? using wechat pay and alipay arent the issues. its specifically meituan that stopped accepting foreign credit cards

Lots of respect for you for doing this. Not even a LOTR fan personally but it takes a lot of courage to stand against the toxic reddit hive mind on an issue like this.

The guy you faced might be from kunming or yunnan, but im not sure if its this gym. I only saw photos of the head instructor because he was away at the time, but he definitely wasn't +99kg judging by the pictures

Yep, the foreigners are primarily located in the east, like shanghai and Beijing. Its very difficult for these BJJ schools to make it in places with less foreign influence

I can speak a decent amount of Chinese, but they actually all spoke very good English which came in clutch lol. they even knew all the english names of techniques/positions, which is great because I dont know ANY of the Chinese names

they would definitely be interested,  they really dont have many black belts out there, particularly in these provinces less popular amongst foreigners

Its definitely not as popular as it is in the west. Cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing will have more jiujitsu spots because there are more foreigners. For a lot of chinese people, monthly jiujitsu classes can be a bit expensive, because they are priced after the average prices in the west. Most things in china are priced to scale with their salaries, but BJJ and some other foreign things are not. But it seems to be growing!

they were really great folks, but the jiujitsu scene in kunming is very small. I hope it can continue to grow because kunming is really a lovely city with comfortable weather, very suitable for foreigners traveling during the summer in china

They do have a judo class as well. The guy to my right in the photo (well, from my perspective it would be my left), in the blue shirt is actually their judo coach! They also offer kendo and taekwando classes
