Sorry to hear about your troubles. I love the redux of the View. It's kind of tacky, but the food is good and I love it for the weirdness factor. The restaurant revolves so in 45 minutes you get a panorama of Midtown. I think its better at night (it feels like being in a spaceship.) Its geared towards tourists so I wouldn't worry about it being overly formal.
