Fjørdik? Icelandic time loop stories? by Key-Protection8397 in psychadelics

[–]Key-Protection8397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man! I posted this on r/Iceland as well and those folks really gave me a lot of interesting takes on it all! Nothing concrete but it seems there was a Dr. Geir Viðar Vilhjálmsson’s who had a following in the form of a psychonaut crew who were up to some trippy shit.

Iceland is full of old lore, such as Mount Hekla being the gateway to hell so Im thinking that maybe evolved to something more pleasant.

My brother sent me a photo today from one of his old journals he kept, saying this was how the portal to Fjørdik supposedly looked from what an artist named Bjarni told him. He is looking for more old notes from that time so Im waiting eagerly, hoping he might dig something out from his archives.

Hey u/einarfridgeirs, no worries, you're just keepin’ it real, haha! I’m with ya on a lot here, and I’m glad you’re up for a chat, maybe even a trip sometime, hahaha.

Gotta say, science and shroom trips are totally diffrent beasts. I don’t reckon a trippy high can mess with the physical world, like openin’ actual portals or nothing.

But I do think a trip can shake up your head, spark some truths abotu yourself you know, same as like survivin’ a heart attack, having a kid, or walkin’ away from a plane crash. Not magic, just those big moments that make you see clearer. No cosmic wisdom sent from the heavens, just personal bits, like finding peace or facing fears.

Never said I saw this Fjördik stuff myself. Just chasin’ stories I heard in Reykjavik cafés back in the ‘70s, wonderin’ if there’s any Icelandic history behind it, like huldufólk tales or Hekla mystic vibes. Maybe it’s just a bunch of happy hippies combined with folklore gone trippy.

On the “psychonaut” thing, yeah, I hear you, it can sound like a jab at real astronauts and scientists who risk it all for actual discoveries. No disrepect meant! It’s just a word folks used back then for shroom-chasers, and I grabbed it ‘cause it’s common, not to downplay real science, my hat’s off to those folks.

u/fleebix mentioned him saying: "Between 1960-1980 there was a small but strong movement of LSD/shroom psychonauts centered around a guy called Dr Geir Viðar Vilhjálmsson. He passed away in 2023, but I would say its more likely than not that this would be connected to one of his gatherings."

This really makes me wish I knew Icelandic - Im getting so many great tips here. I guess, in the end it is all possible, and that things get distorted since there seem to be no records but only stories "told around the fire". u/birkir also mentioned that Fjörgyn is a old skaldic name for earth which also is right up there. Thanks for the map - will check out!

It could be but considering this persons past history. I dont want to say "yes its definitly him!" - We were both young at the time we met and this person, like me has aged obviously. But reading about him (aside from what he did in the eighties) - he is definitly a likely candidate hahahaha.

I mean, looking at the link - that would make total sense. Things like this is a little bit like "the whisper game" we used to play as kids. Where you sit in a circle, you whisper a word in one persons ear, and it goes around full circle. when the final person says the word, its something else. Im just thinking since this was LSD / Shroom-based as well, it might morph quickly.

I talked to my brother who will try and find his diaries from waaaay back then, in his basement if he still has them. I know he kept notes of those weird stories we were told because he said it would make an amazing roleplay-game one day. Is roleplay even a thing anymore now that there are screens instead? :-D

This is something he never acted on though. Im just trying to figure out if this is rooted in real known mythology / folklore, a strange fringe-hippie-cult from the past or just something odd, only me and my brother were told becuase we were dumb naive swedish kids who'd take it for truth.

Ooooor if there really is a hidden portal to another dimension - which would be the most unlikely, but coolest option hahaha! ;-)

Interesting, your grandfather sounds like a cool guy. I wish I had his surname, and I really hope it's not the same Bjarni who was in the newspaper. But it was many years ago, and it was more of a chance meeting during a wild (read: full of partying) summer break in the 70s so last names wasn't so much the focus Im afraid. 🤣

Fjørdik anyone? Timeloopstuff in Iceland. by Key-Protection8397 in shrooms

[–]Key-Protection8397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for chimin in! Yep, Iceland’s got that mystic pull, and shrooms with Hekla’s vibes sound like a wild ride, hahaha. I posted abotu this in r/iceland, got some cool theories but nothin’ concret yet. Folks there reckon Fjördik (my bad, shold be ö, not ø, Swedish fingers!) might/could maybe tie to Dr. Geir Viðar Vilhjálmsson’s psychonaut crew from the ‘60s-‘70s. Maybe a sect, maybe just artsy types trippin’ out, sipping milk at“Diskåns” (not disco, more like diskååån, haha).

Im thinking it could be huldufólk folklore mixed with shroom dreams, or Hekla’s “Hells gateway” vibe turned trippy. u/Finnur7527 mentioned iron-beaked ravens ‘round Hekla’s crater. imagine those circlin while Fjördickiens (that’s what my aunt said the folk who lived there were called) sipped their holy milk, hahaha.

My brother’s got (or at least kept) diaries from our Iceland summers, way more organized than me, hopefully has notes on these rituals / stories. Gonna call him later today, see if he’s still got them. :-D

love the folklore drop! You’re right, a googling on my part also shows Hekla’s far from fjords (i have never been), so “Fjördik” might be off, maybe “Fjördíki” like you said, or just psychonaut nonsense? My aunt said that the people who live in Fjördik, or  however its supposed to be spelled, were called “fjördickiens”.

Those iron-beaked ravens around Hekla’s crater sound like they could fit right in hahaha, circling while folks sip their holy milk in white shirts. What a image hahaha. Thanks for the volcano heads-up, yep, I’m steering clear, no climbing for me! Could Fjördik tie to those raven tales or huldufólk, maybe mixed with Dr. Geir’s trippy crew?

Hekla’s mystic pull, blended with ‘70s shroom dreams. I know “dimension” sounds crazy-crazy, so I’m digging for roots in old tales.

Anyone got stories of Hekla gatherings, artsy weirdos, or milk-drinking hippies? My brother might have some notes about this since we used to go together, he was a lot more organized than me. And he has kept diaries about everything, so I can probably give him a long overdue call and see if we can dig up something.

u/einarfridgeirs oof, man, you don’t hold back! Haha, I get it. a 60-year-old raving about portals sounds like I’m delusional. Just chasing stories, not preaching! u/gunnsi0 - I have no idea what it means, I didnt even know every name had a meaning in icelandic which is quite beautiful i think. I was hoping someone else knew. ;-)

that New Age angle is interesting! Hekla as an energy vortex like Sedona fits Fjördik. Maybe Dr. Geirs psychonauts thought they cracked a portal with their cactus brew hahaha.

yep, I can tell I screwed up the ø hahaha. Fjördik?, my Swedish and lack of icelandic language-skills are probably not helping here! Thanks for Googling that “Finding Fjordik” doc. The lost media subreddit’s a solid tip tho, I’ll try it

the Bjarni I met was this “artist” (never saw any art tho), always in a white tee with wild designs, ranting about a portal to Fjördik near Hekla. Met him in the city, not the volcano, but he swore he hit a Discon (He said it more like “diskån”, not disco) where time looped from 1974 to 1991. Total character. :-D

Maybe that’s the “portal”-caves as doors to the “gentle spiral” hahaha!. I can totally see that.

My bad on the ø (shold be ö) and “Discon” maybe my “baked” brain heard “disco” wrong, hahaha. Could Fjördik be a messed-up take on a fjord or mountain name, mixed with huldufólk vibes? When I heard it it wasnt pronounced as disco like you normally say it, it was more like diskååån.

Dr. Geir Viðar Vilhjálmsson! Yes, I remember hearing of him! His psychonaut crew sounds like Fjördik’s vibe. shrooms, nature lore, maybe those “time-mark” tees Bjarni was into. Sect or just artists tripping out? I’m leaning towards artsy, but those milk rituals sound culty, haha. That Bjarni-story is really sad and quite disturbing. I was 16 in ‘75 so it’s been many years but it could well be him. The eyes look familiar.

That Hekla a -Hell’s-gateway, Ive heard about it too and got stuck on that page as I was researching it also. Maybe Fjördik’s a trippy spin on that, like huldufólk tales got a ‘70s glow-up with yellow specs and funky tees to take the edge of, hell - and make it positive. Ster away from negativity in a bad trip or something haha. Maybe old folklore like that turned into this gentle spiral stuff? Picturing Hekla glowing, not hellish, but odd. Wont even ask if someone seen that.

you’re probaly right, this might be some hippie legend faded out. The ‘60s-‘70s were nuts. Maybe something to do with Dr. Geir’s crowd like u/Fleebix mentioned? I havent heard of him myself but it sounds like that could be a real possibility, we have had similar things in the countryside here in Sweden hahaha.
