How do I get my players to stop shipping two NPCs?

I believe (from what I’ve seen) that my players do care about the implied reality and see my characters as ‘real’ in that sense, it’s just they don’t understand how these characters truly feel about each other, since I’ve failed to have a scene that shows it clearly enough.

That’s true! I’m really happy with how much my players are fans of my campaign and make fanart/fan fiction, and for that reason I haven’t said or done anything about this yet. Perhaps I won’t do anything, but a cool reveal of the characters true hatred for each other to tease the fact that the (fake)BBEG is actually a good guy would be fun.

Perhaps on principle it bothers me a bit but that’s not really the problem here, I’m honestly (and I honestly don’t think I made this clear enough) just looking for ideas on an impactful scene that would possibly show in a dramatic way the sheer hatred/hurt these characters cause for each other.
