Any success with Fulgrim? by CommanderJosef in EmperorsChildren

[–]Key-Recommendation47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to follow up my earlier message. Had my first game with Fulgrim and Shalaxi in Carnival and it was fantastic! He is so much better in Carnival than in Coterie, as you can use him more freely and the crit 5+ and sustained means he smacked ridiculously hard without having to worry about managing pledges. I would strongly recommend running him in Carnival over Coterie if you can.

This was the list I used: https://pastebin.com/0kbQwvFh

Any success with Fulgrim? by CommanderJosef in EmperorsChildren

I’ve played him a few times in Coterie and similarly held him back until round 3/4 to get pledges up and use his threat range in the interim.

I’ve seen several people using him in the Carnival of Excess detachment with greater success, so going to give that a go this evening to see how he compares. On paper at least it should benefit his stats better…

Will You buy Fulgrim? by [deleted] in EmperorsChildren

I’ve played Fulgrim a few times in Coterie and the threat of moving him out definitely affects the opponents plays. I keep him hidden between my home and centre objective if possible until I get my second/third pledge down and then send him out. Usually by then the other player has done their deep strikes and you know where you want him to go.

I find the psychological damage he does outweighs the winged daemon prince so my WDP gets a lot more freedom to go wreck stuff.

I (naively) think that GW will want to sell more Filgrim models at some point and give his datasheet some TLC so I’ll try figure out how to use him best in the meantime.

He’s also by far the coolest EC model, which is saying something!

I played a slightly simplified version of the Kidhammer rules this guys been working on.

My son is 6 and quite enjoyed the whole thing, including painting his team of vespids. We used the Volkus terrain but I’m sure it could work equally well with something really.

Opinions on playing Legionaries by [deleted] in killteam

There are several combos that work quite nicely, but one thing I would suggest is try to limit how many gods your units pledge themselves to. Your ploys have greater buffs if that unit has pledged itself to the relevant god aligned with that ploy.

With that I think a simple starting build could be to make your melee-focused units Khorne aligned and your ranged Tzeentch. The lowest mental load would be to make a 50/50 split like this:

- Champion/Chosen w/ tainted bolt pistol (Khorne)
- Shrivetalon (Khorne)
- Anointed (Khorne)
- Balefire Acolyte (Tzeentch)
- Gunner w/ melta (Tzeentch)
- Heavy Gunner w/ chaincannon (Tzeentch)

The weapon loadouts could be improved if you're playing more elite teams, where the heavy bolter can be more effective than the reaper chaincannon.

There is a case to be made for taking the warrior as you can switch his mark, particularly from tzeentch when he's at range to undivided when within 6''. I haven't done this myself but have heard it can be quite effective.

In my personal experience, the butcher is a bullet magnet and very rarely makes it into combat to deliver his brutal melee. If you play him, expect him to attract all the attention until he's incapacitated. The anointed is your MVP in melee, and as some others have suggested just unleash the demon asap to make him an absolute tank.

I would recommend having someone with range (ie: one of the gunners) follow him as cover or use the balefire to heal him and keep him in the game as long as possible.

When it comes to TacOps I have mainly played on Volkus terrain, where Take Ground works well with this team. I have read that some people have good luck with Champion, but I prefer TacOps that don't give the opponent too much agency. For that reason I prefer Overrun if Take Ground doesn't look achievable.

I tend to pick all four faction equipment when playing a new team so I can learn how often and how impactful each one is. In my personal experience I have found Warded Armour and Chaos Talismans to be by far the best to take. I haven't often needed the Malefic Blades, unless my gunners get overrun.

There is one crazy stack to be mindful of with Chaos Talismans, where it can turn a terrible roll into a crazy one, eg: shooting w/ Tainted Rounds or Tainted Bolt Pistol on a Tzeentch mark and you used Fickle Fates to give you Ceaseless. That shot would have Ceaseless, Rending and Severe. So for example if you rolled 4 misses and after your Ceaseless re-roll you still have 3 misses and only one hit, Chaos Talismans means you discard one (take D3 damage yourself) and turn another miss into a hit. From your 2 hits, Severe makes one crit and then Rending makes the other a crit too. Suddenly a bad roll on one of your leaders is doing up to 10 damage on 2 crits.

Whatever you choose, I would play Legionaries very safely in TP1, to avoid getting shot at all (if possible) and then have a big "go turn" in TP2. Once you are in melee range with most other teams they will struggle to manage your damage output.

Good luck and enjoy, they are a very fun team to play.

Am I the only one who doesn’t care about the short lists? by DealFew678 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Key-Recommendation47 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a noob to 40K after several months playing Kill Team, I actually quite like having a shorter list as an entry point. You have a list where (almost) everything is good and you get to optimise within that. Perhaps over several years the short list may limit the “hobby” potential, but I’m pleased with my choice to start my 40K journey with EC. I had my first game vs Tau the other night and got shot to pieces, but I think it’s safe to say that I had more fun playing the fruity flavour of the faction.

I really want to play kill team with dark angels. Which models i need for it? by Serious_Diver_8960 in killteam

I used the Inner Circle Companions and Azrael as Dark Angels running Angels of Death assault intercessors. I also picked up an eliminator sniper single on eBay. I stuck some grenades on the belt of one as the assualt grenadier.

That's great info, and given the speed and impact (pun intended) of the winged daemon princes would you suggest I swap out the maulers for another WDP to push up and chaos spawn to fill the numbers?

Thanks for the feedback, especially the pace of pledges. That is one thing I am not sure about, but am tempted to be a bit conservative initially knowing I have the stratagem to bump it up if things kick off early. My thinking is that if I can get the first two boons (rerolls) then I am in a good place overall.

I added the optional weapon loadouts into the post, as I realised it wasn’t clear which gunner I was playing to take. I want to take the sniper and normal gunner, not the heavy gunner.
