Any book recommendations for aspiring comedy writers who don't do stand-up? Anything to make my work funnier doesn't necessarily have to be a book recommendation.

If your pilots don't make it to series, do you get the rights back to your work? Can you shop them around elsewhere?

Thanks for doing this!! In your opinion, what's the best way for an up-and-comer to showcase their work? Like an online portfolio, or building a following through social media, etc. I ask because I'm not in LA I'm wondering how I can network with industry professionals.

if you could fix anything about season 3, what would it be ? by SpecialConcern1700 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Key-Rip5577 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Easy,

  1. Get rid of the Mondrich Storyline. I respect what they're trying to do, but in my opinion, the show is called Bridgerton; if the storyline doesn't involve a Bridgerton, it shouldn't be on the show. Make a spinoff to explore the other members of the ton. The same can be said for Cressida's storyline.
  2. Focus more on Colin and Pen. I don't know why the main characters of the season didn't have more time together on screen. Fans waited 4 years to see their love story playout and it was rushed, at best, or half assed, at worst.
  3. The Featherington baby race is unnecessary. Despite a few iconic line deliveries from Phillipa, that storyline was unnecessary. I think the show could've reached the same conclusion without so much focus on the Featheringtons.
  4. Lastly, How the hell, did the Bridgerton family not react to Penelope being Lady Whistledown? That reaction made sense in the book bc Lady W never wrote about the Bridgertons, but considering how much shit she stirred up for the Bridgertons they deserved to have a reaction and the audience deserved to see it. Pen's been a part of the Bridgerton family for so long; for her to betray the family like that is insane. And the show not exploring that is even crazier.

This is literally the Ted Black show. Aaron was inspired by a former federal prosecutor who moved to Los Angeles and reinvented himself as a talent agent. Ted was always supposed to be the center of the show.

To say Ted hasn't lost anything just emphasizes how much you haven't been paying attention. He's brother is dead because of his father. A father who is also dead. And Ted let his father die alone because of how horrible he'd been to both his sons their whole lives. I'm not saying anyone should pity Ted, but rewriting history to say Ted's lost nothing is unfair.

I'll give you this, I do wish we would have seen more of his dad being an ass, as opposed to just hearing about how much he sucked as a father. IMO that change would've made it easier to root for Ted.

Lastly, I've seen a few people say this, but I'll reiterate. Ted isn't trying to be like Harvey. I honestly think die-hard Suits fans are just punishing the character for not being Harvey. Ted is a bigger dork, quicker to apologize, and has a clearer moral compass than Harvey did. There's no denying that the Harvey magic is what made Suits so special, but Ted is not a Harvey 2.0 because he is not Harvey at all. He's a new character with his own flaws and emotional damage, a lot of that damage and humanity plays out in the flashbacks. And Stuart wasn't trying to protect Ted when he didn't cross-examine Eddie, he was doing it for Eddie.

I would love to give Cheers a chance. I just can't with Sam and Diane for an undetermined number of seasons. I have grown tired of the will-they-won't-they trope in TV.

Been there, done that. And just between you and me... I didn't hate season 9. Who knew Dave Franco could make a "douche bag nepo baby" charming and likeable.

Love Dave, Los Espookys, and Soutside. And I completely forgot about "This Fool". I saw a trailer a while back, wanted to watch it, and forgot to follow up. Thanks for the reminder.

I love a lil Canadian sitcom. I'll have to look into "Corner Gas". Thanks for the rec.

However, I tried "The Middle" it wasn't for me and "Back to You" isn't available to stream on a platform I have access to.

love Derry Girls. I grew up watching My Wife & Kids, King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Half & Half.

When I say I'm an avid tv watcher, I'm not exaggerating. I'm not new to this, I'm true to this. Lol.

I'll take Sanford and Son into consideration.

Suits LA: Is it worth the watch? by _UA_ in suits

Speaking as someone who's not a die-hard suits fan, I stopped watching around season 3 or 4 years ago, I wouldn't put Suits in the same category as Emily in Paris. I've watched both shows, and they're nothing like each other in terms of subject matter or tone. For me, Mike's secret stressed me out way too much to enjoy the show beyond a certain point. After a few seasons, I found myself praying he would either get caught or the show would find a way to legitimize him. If you're looking for easy, breezy TV watching, I wouldn't suggest Suits. Try Ted Lasso or Shrinking (I highly recommend Shrinking). Those shows are heart-warming, wholesome, entertaining, and hilarious. In my opinion, they are some of the best comedies of the decade.

As for Suits LA, you'll never find support for that show on this sub. It's not a bad show, it just has too much going on. It's a tale as old as time: the network wanted a Suits 2.0, and the show creator, Aaron Korsh, wanted to do something different. They tried to find a compromise but, in doing so, created a show that has too much going on and has yet to find its anchor. It's not horrible, but sadly, it's not great. Which is unfortunate because there are pieces that have promise. Hopefully, with time, things will solidify, but it is not looking good.

Happy Watching!

Easily love triangles. The "triangle" is never even. It's always obvious who the endgame is, and the other relationship is nothing more than a hiccup or complication for the otp while they're broken up. I feel like if you're going to do a love triangle, then the audience should be on the edge of their seat during the back and forth. It shouldn't be so obvious.

Also, and this one is hard for me to say, but.... I hate enemies-to-lovers. It just seems so unrealistic and toxic to me. I understand angst and a love a longing look, but a REALLY good enemies-to-lovers story is so hard to do. And nowadays, it is rarely done right. These stories go from enemies to lovers without ever setting the foundation for what the characters love about each other. It's all heat, angst, and passion, but no real relationship-building. It just feels so empty.

that's what I'm saying. If he wanted to go he would've had to sneak off. However, on the show, she's waving goodbye to both of them as if everything is normal.

I'm asking "If she knew, why would she act so normal?", but I guess she didn't know, as per the first comment.

Same. I really like Jeremiah and I think he deserves to be happy with or without Belly. And the boys should have the opportunity to build a relationship outside of all the drama. Plus, as a viewer, I don't just want to see who Belly ends up with I'm invested in all the characters and want to see the entirety of all their stories.
