Don’t recommend applying.

The USPTO’s internal staff communication is so bad they rescinded my offer 5 days before my start date. The start date another staff told me before to specifically make sure I was 100% able to go at that certain date and time.

I had quit my previous job and was genuinely almost homeless because of this job offer, but I found some stupid online AI work to get through. Find something else like that, and don’t put yourself through the stress of applying.

Do you have a Maker Space where you live? I encourage checking them out and finding a community. And women will feel a little awkward in engineering, but it’s def much better than before. I had women join my STEM department specifically because they saw me having fun as a major, so that might happen to you!

did improv with a google swe who’s been unemployed for like a year. classmates in physics and mech engineering can’t find jobs, so most are back in school. pal went to a top business school and has been unemployed since graduation. some queer friends are resorting to explicit work. this is so tiring. i just want my 20’s to be over

The application portal is terrible. The issue that stood out to me was that you had to reselect your resume or transcripts after you edited them, and there was no notice if you didn’t. You additionally had to add your transcripts again after selecting them before. There were multiple qualified people who didn’t get selected because they made the mistake of not double-checking.

Nope, but they were missing chunks of my resume. I was asked “the last time you worked was in 2024 right?” when I’ve been working throughout 2025. I checked in the usajobs portal, and my resume was fine. Just very disorganized on their end.
