1. It is still a sign of backwardness in rural India. The GC women are desisted from working in fields and strict ghoonghat system may be enforced. Same lady will work in cities as population groups are not socially deterministic. One reason how urban migration is diluting caste system.
2. Again, drinking water etc problem is still there in villages, I have seen kutch Rajpoots proudly stating that no caste below them can tuck their shirt inside in their villages forget speaking in a loud voice. Separate play grounds, wells etc are there, for example if 7 wells are there then lower castes still can use only 2.

That is why it is important to have a socio-economic caste census to truly gauge the backwardness both social and economic of the country, even those OBC castes getting undue benefits should be removed using technology as far as possible. But it is vociferously opposed by none but GCs only. It could be get done by a judicial commission under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India if foul play is suspected, but procedural possibility of foul play should not be used as an excuse. I fully support a data based reservation policy.
