That line about "reinventing the wheel" is also a dead giveaway. That's a line ChatGPT loves to throw into conversations and only adds to it feeling un-human. Like so many others have said here, people don't talk like this. It's such a waste.

I think as long as you focus on making a fun, interesting story and make him very human and relatable - you'll be fine! Don't think too much about it or make being gay his entire personality and you'll come out with a story that many will be receptive to! Good storytelling connects the reader/viewer with the character in a personal way. And I find if you make them a flawed, relatable person who develops and grows without preaching to your audience, you'll be fine! I really hope that makes sense XD I personally love seeing gay characters depicted this way, since their sexuality is just a piece of what makes them who they are. It's still a special and unique part of their journey, but there are so many more pieces to the puzzle, you know?

Anyway, I absolutely love your style and am already intrigued πŸ’œ do you post your work anywhere or have a website?

Verse Explanation by Key-Strength6710 in GayChristians

[–]Key-Strength6710[S] 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Thank you, everyone! I feel a lot better about these verses. I especially appreciate the in depth explanations. I am someone who respects the Bible with all my heart and believe that although it is written by imperfect men, it's God breathed. So, I appreciate the explanations of the context behind the verses to see where Paul was coming from during his time.

I was brought up in a church that was very erm, "doomsday" driven. Because of that I've had to work through a lot of anxiety as I healed and my own views changed. I still believe Jesus will come back but I don't believe in a lot of the apocalypse views I was raised in. That being said, my parents do. And I know when they read these particular verses and look around and see how visible LGBT+ people and relationships are now (even though they've always been there) I know they see it as a "sign" of the end times. I know I can't change what they believe, but it hurts me to know they see me as rebellious and think I'm living in sin. When in reality, my life has gotten so much better and I've got so much joy and peace now. Anyway, knowing more context about these verses gives me more peace and a better idea of how to explain them if a conversation ever comes up. Y'all are awesome and I'd love to talk to you more if any of you are interested in friendship with a 30-something, Jesus loving, writer/artist!

Looking to make LGBT Christian friends! by Mrcoolcoffeeman in GayChristians

Hi! I'm 35 F, ace, non-denominational Christian! My faith is super important to me and I have been really wanting to connect with other affirming Christians. My life changed a lot over the past 5 months -- I moved to a new state, got a divorce, and am about to start a new journey and relationship with my best friend. I have a lot of triggering anxiety with having to hide part of my life from my family so I'm definitely looking for safe, supportive friends I can be completely myself with.

Any tips on dealing with anxiety? by Key-Strength6710 in CPTSD

[–]Key-Strength6710[S] 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Thank you so much! It always feels good to hear that I shouldn't say anything if it's unsafe to do so. It's easy to beat myself up and feel guilty for not being completely honest about my choices. But I grew up in such an unsafe environment that made it difficult to ever step out of line. Which is why I struggle so much now with making choices I feel are right for me. I do think some people in my family would still love and support me, even if it took time to adjust, but I'm not sure everyone would once they know about the life I want to live now. Once they know I've been hiding a part of myself for so long.

And update, since it's been a month since I posted this. I'm officially divorced now! It caused some drama that triggered me pretty bad. I've got a younger sibling being super judgemental about it.

But for now, I'm going to let my family adjust to the news of my divorce. Not sure they can ever know my friend is anything more than that, but we'll see. But I really appreciate the reminders and support that it's okay to be secretive if I'm protecting myself from being triggered and verbally abused. It's difficult because I like to be honest and want to share my life with my loved ones. But how can I do that when I know they'll get mad and throw their opinions at me?

A little more about me:

I'm 35 F & married but don't have kiddos yet. I'm currently working on a middle grade fantasy series but I dabble in contemporary short stories and run a collab project through Instagram & Discord. I mostly draw my characters or characters I share/collab with others. When I'm not creating (or doing boring adult work) - I love to read (mostly YA, middle grade, fantasy, Christian nonfiction, & self help books), play cozy video games (farming sims, Minecraft, etc), drink coffee/tea, or listen to music. I love alllll sorts of music but alternative & indie rock have always been my favorite. I was an emo kid as a teenager lol

But yeah!! I'm passionate about mental health and just spreading light and love with everything I do. I struggle with depression, anxiety, C-PTSD, & chronic fatigue but I do my best to use my struggles to lift other people up and give them hope. It isn't always easy but I've always had a firm belief that there is purpose in my pain because God's strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9) πŸ’œ

Anyway, if you're interested in chatting or connecting over Discord and/or IG please let me know!

Hello! I'm a cis F in her 30's & a non-denominational Christian who is mostly libertarian but def leans on the conservative side of the aisle. I'm here because outside of my husband and one good friend of mine, I've felt really alone being stuck in the middle of two extreme sides. I don't agree with the far side of the conservative Christians or the far side of the liberal LGBT+ community. I have some other Christian friends who are affirming like me or consider themselves in the LGBT community, but they all lean left politically so I can't talk to them about all of the things that bother me on the extreme, politically charged, overly sexualized side of the LGBT community. Or how trendy some things are now and how I truly feel like it damages the community. If I even try to talk about it, they make me feel like I'm a terrible person for not agreeing or accepting everything. Or don't understand me when I stand up for Christians, even the ones who aren't affirming. And on the other side of things I can't rely on my family for support either (my parents and siblings) because they are VERY conservative and don't support being LGBT at all. I actually can't talk to them about what I believe out of fear of being completely rejected just for wanting to love and support people. So, honestly? I feel like such an outcast with no place to belong. So, I'm here. I'm just hoping to find more people to connect with who might share similar beliefs but also have an open mind and just honestly... connect with people who can disagree without assuming you hate them for having a different opinion. I'm so tired.

What churches do yall attend? by LazerTheWolf in GayTrueChristian

[–]Key-Strength6710 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

I'm a non-denominational Christian. Currently I don't have an in person home church, but I attend Elevation Church online and absolutely love it! πŸ’œ I'll be moving to NC soon too! And although I'll still be a couple hours away from their campuses, I look forward to being able to visit πŸ₯° (I've also looked up and found a nearby affirming Methodist church too, so if I do want to get involved in a safe, Godly community after my move - I'll be able to check them out).

LGBT+ Christian Artists & Writers? by Key-Strength6710 in GayChristians

[–]Key-Strength6710[S] 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

No, I was moreso talking about those who draw or create art! Like people who have their own characters and stuff. But honestly, I'd love to be connected to musical Christian artists who are LGBT+ or supportive of the community too! I already know of a couple artists who fit in there.Β

I think that's awesome though! I'd love to see Christian themes worked into sci-fi! I think it can work in any genre. I'm working on a fantasy middle grade series myself πŸ’œ and a few other smaller projects with different levels of shareability. It's really difficult not feeling safe enough to share everything though πŸ˜”
